Two Manchester United Stars Whose Future Is In Immediate Doubt After A Flop Season

Share

1.Marcos Rojo

Recently, Marcos Rojo has revealed that he wants to return to his boyhood club when his contract expires in 2019 with the Red Devils.

In an interview Rojo said, ‘I miss the club, my family and my friends,’ ‘I want to return to Estudiantes once I finish my contract in England.’

The 26-year-old Argentine has acknowledged that he wants to return to Estudiantes where he started his professional career with. Rojo joined Manchester United in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon for £16million but didn’t fit in the Premier League as he would have expected. In his 2 years tenure at Manchester, he has made 32 appearances for the club but a decline in his form made him a backup plan in Louis Van Gaal’s side. Deployed as left back and central back, his position was eventually taken over by the other players in the squad as his injury show raised.

A regular starter in the 2014-15 season, he made 22 appearances for the club and had an amazing passing accuracy of 85% and created 10 chances for the club, also had an average 9 defensive actions per game. But, in the current season for the Devils, he appeared only 10 times for the club and rested on the sidelines due to injuries. Rojo had a good spell at Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon but he intends to return to Argentina.

Besides Rojo’s contract, Manchester United is willing to listen the offers for the defender. If the new manager arrives at the Stretford End, Rojo won’t be given much time to stay as the player is having a close relation with constant injuries. If Mourinho comes to United, the club will surely go for the big names in the summer and will allow the flops to leave the club.

2. Memphis Depay

Another player who could be on his way out is the Dutch Memphis Depay. A free-kick specialist in PSV Eindhoven is struggling to fit in the boots of Barclays Premier League. He helped his former side to win the Dutch title and by finishing on the top of the scoring chart by netting 22 goals. Compared with Eden Hazard after the arrival, he showed no flashes of confidence and technical abilities. In his first season for the club, the player has appeared in 23 games but has failed to show the glimpses of his trickery he was famous for in Netherlands. At the beginning of the season he continuously blundered but as the second half of the season started, he showed improvements in his game and passing. He had his best game in United’s shirt against Midtjylland in Europa League but slipped to show the same in the next games.

Though he has a good passing accuracy of 80%, he failed to show the same in his shots (47%). Scored just 2 goals in the Premier League, his abilities are questioned by the fans. Some say he needs more time to cope with the pace of the league where some call him a pure flop. Southampton number 4  Jordy Clasie backed his former team-mate by saying that he needs more time to live up to the expectations of Manchester United fans.

However, United’s number 7 who earns £150,000-a-week recently ended the doubts by saying that he doesn’t want to leave Manchester United and want to have a great future with the club. The fans would surely be expecting a much better 2016-17 season from him and if the new manager arrives at the club then surely his future will be in danger.
