Two ideal Premier League destinations for Juventus’ Emre Can

According to Metro, Juventus will listen to offers in the region of £35million for out-of-favour midfielder Emre Can.

The former Liverpool star has failed to hit the ground running in the Serie A and now, it appears as if he could be on his way back to the Premier League.

With that in mind, here are two of the most ideal English top-flight clubs for Can and why he would be best suited to join them.

Tottenham Hotspur

Now, Mauricio Pochettino bought defensive midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer transfer, which was followed by a move for Giovani Lo Celso.

However, Ndombele’s playing has been limited due to an injury. In fact, he has made just four starts and played 430 minutes in those games.

Mauricio Pochettino

Pochettino lacks a proper backup to Ndombele – only Victor Wanyama and the versatile Moussa Sissoko can take his place if needed. Pochettino has also played with three different defenders this season. He failed to sign a replacement for Kieran Trippier, who joined La Liga club Atletico Madrid during the summer.

Hotspur are in a need of a versatile midfielder and considering Can’s ability to play at right-back does give him an advantage.

Everton

Everton coach Marco Silva has just one defensive midfielder in his squad and clearly needs an experienced yet a young player in that position.

Morgan Schneiderlin has played a decent amount of games this season but he has failed to show his ability as a regular starter.

He helped the defence maintain just one clean sheet in those games and that came in Everton’s Premier League opener against Crystal Palace. His lack of pace has also kept him limited to defensive roles.

The Toffees have youngster Tom Davies in the squad to play in that position but his lack of experience has understandably limited Silva’s trust in the 21-year-old.

Furthermore, Silva has failed to find a long-time replacement for midfielder Idrissa Gueye, who joined Ligue 1 champions PSG on a permanent deal during the summer.

Gueye had established himself as a regular starter at Goodison Park for the past four seasons and after his departure, Everton have struggled to hold the waves of opponents’ attacks.

Verdict

Can is a proven Premier League midfielder, meaning he won’t take much time to adapt to the new environment.

Having spent four seasons with Liverpool with ten goals to his name, Can has also made 32 appearances for Juventus. However, he has fallen out of favour under new manager Maurizio Sarri. That said, both Tottenham and Everton could make use of a player like him.
