Two ideal destinations for free agent Bakary Sako this summer

The transfer window remains open until the end of the month for European clubs but there are a host of players who could be signed for free.

There are plenty of free agents available – some with solid Championship experience while others have carved a niche for themselves in a different continent. In addition, there are certain players who have Premier League pedigree as well.

Out of a host of free agents available, one of them is Mali international Bakary Sako. Sako has been a free agent since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of the 2017/18 campaign. The 30-year-old couldn’t agree on a new contract at Selhurst Park and he must be on the lookout for a new home.

Keeping that in mind, here are two ideal destinations for Sako.

  1. Rangers

Steven Gerrard still needs to address a couple of areas for Rangers that remain particularly light. And the latest anterior cruciate ligament injury to Jamie Murphy, which could see the winger sidelined for a good majority of the ongoing campaign, has left Rangers short of depth out wide.

Gerrard must sign another winger to add cover and quality to his squad and he should not pass up the opportunity to sign Sako, who is a free agent.

Sako scored six times in 19 appearances for Palace last term in an injury-hit campaign, but was deemed surplus to requirements at the end of the season. Available on a free, Sako is a must-buy for the Rangers.

The Malian is a versatile attacker, filled with pace and power and he would provide more than adequate quality as Murphy’s replacement. Sako could also be enticed to join the Rangers as Gerrard’s side must challenge their direct rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.

  1. Middlesbrough

Sako remains without a club as of now and Middlesbrough should act fast to snap up the Mali international to fill the void left by Adama Traore.

Sako, 30, is blessed with electric pace and power and still has a lot to give in his career. Although his tryst with football has been blighted with various injuries, he is devastating to deal with when fully fit.

The Malian made a name for himself at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship, before moving to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. A proven Championship customer, signing Sako on a free transfer should be a tempting prospect for Middlesbrough in their early bid for promotion.
