Tricky Games Coming Up: Will Chelsea ‘s Poor Season Continue?

Share

If anyone could have accurately predicted the way things have gone this season for Chelsea, they would have been hailed as the next messiah for mankind. Chelsea have been awful this season and lie 16th in the Premier League after 12 games. This is easily the worst start they have had in a long time and is the worst start by a defending Premier League champion.

It isn’t just the way Chelsea have played on the field; off the field there have been a lot of issues which haven’t helped the club. Chelsea will be looking to the Premier League after the international break as Jose Mourinho tries to get the club back into the top four at least, which even he has said will be a difficult task for the Blues.

Chelsea lost their last game before the break and with a couple of crunch ties in the UEFA Champions League coming up; it wouldn’t be easy to tell just how well Jose Mourinho’s side would be doing. Every single time they have been defeated, the expectation is that the Champions will come roaring back in the next game but the Chelsea lion has whimpered like a pussycat this season and we look ahead to their next four Premier League games and predict just how well they might do.

Norwich – Home

Well, at least Chelsea start off with an easy game at home against Alex Neil’s Norwich. It is technically a relegation six-pointer with Norwich just one place above Chelsea, but no one would have imagined such a scenario for either team, well at least not for Chelsea.

Chelsea though should have more firepower than Norwich and barring a miracle, the Blues should get the three points easily but we have said this statement too many times this season and you can’t be sure of which Chelsea turns up.

Tottenham – Away

The last thing that Chelsea would need is to face Tottenham; Spurs have been brilliant this season and are on a long unbeaten run since the loss in the first game of the season against Manchester United. While Harry Kane might not be firing on all cylinders, Dele Alli and Eric Dier have been just a couple of bright spots for the team from White Hart Lane.

Playing against Tottenham might have been a gimme a couple of seasons ago but this Chelsea look different and this Tottenham seem hungry and wanting to make a mark under Mauricio Pochettino. This could well be the time for Spurs to get one over their other rivals from London and really put them in some deep trouble. Chelsea would be lucky to end up with one point after this game, especially since they would have been in Champions League action away from home against Maccabi Tel – Aviv.

Bournemouth – Home

Well, at least Chelsea would be facing another sure shot three points by taking on Eddie Howe’s men. Bournemouth have been extremely unlucky this season even though their performances have been great. They lost their last game against Newcastle despite dominating the game; they did the same against Southampton in the second half as well.

Chelsea should easily get the three points against Bournemouth; well at least we hope they can. Nothing is a guarantee for Chelsea this season it seems and even these simple games are incredibly tough for them at the moment.

Leicester – Away

A team at the top faces a team close to the bottom, well this would have been the headline had things went the right way for Chelsea and the wrong way for Leicester, but the roles have been reversed this season as it is the Foxes who have blown away most teams and sit pretty in third place after 12 games.

Chelsea will face a tough task against Jamie Vardy and co, plus this would be a clash that Claudio Ranieri would love to get the better off as he was the Chelsea coach just before the appointment of Jose Mourinho, the first time he came to the league. Leicester though would have played some tough games before facing Chelsea such as Manchester United, Swansea and Newcastle but should be good enough to at least get a point against the Blues. Chelsea’s poor season might not get better soon, but a point here and there can paper some of the cracks in the castle.
