Celtic Transfer News: Celtic are set to face a huge battle for the signing of Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. (h/t HITC)

The report (h/t Chronicle Live UK) claims the Magpies shot-stopper was under the scrutiny of big clubs like Arsenal, Everton alongside the Hoops over the weekend.

Freddie Woodman

Player Stats

Woodman who got raised through the youth ranks of Newcastle made it to the senior team in 2014.

He was loaned to various clubs the following years that include Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old caught everyone’s eye with his heroics in the U-20 world cup for England last year.

The English shot-stopper played a huge part in the finals making a world-class penalty save against Venezuela and led his side to lift the trophy. He was later bestowed with the golden glove award of the tournament

Since returning to his parent club this season, Woodman has been a regular for the Magpies U-23 side and has made ten appearances.

How significant Woodman will be for Celtic?

Neil Lennon has not many options for the goalkeepers other than Scott Bain.  With the secondary keeper Craig Gordon being on the twilight of his career, the Hoops would benefit a lot from the U-20 world cup winner.

Possibilities

Because of the lack of first team opportunities, the odds are high that Woodman would seek an exit soon. His contract is due to expire next season. (h/t Chronicle Live UK)

Neil Lennon

The Hoops are yet to face a defeat since the turn of the year and are maximizing their chances to lift the eighth league title straight in a row.

Lennon, the caretaker manager awaits his biggest assessment yet in the Old Firm Derby and Scottish Cup semi-final against Aberdeen.
