According to a report from the Express, AS Monaco are willing to loan out midfielder Youri Tielemans for the second half of the season following the return of boss Leonardo Jardim.
The relationship between Youri Tielemans and Jardim turned sour earlier this season before the latter was dismissed as Monaco boss and replaced by Thierry Henry. Now with Jardim returning to the hot seat, the Belgian has been transfer listed despite netting 5 goals in 20 league appearances for a struggling Monaco.
Keeping that in mind, Tottenham Hotspur must quickly make a move to sign Youri Tielemans on loan until the end of the season.
Tottenham were eliminated from two cup competitions last week as Mauricio Pochettino looks set to have another trophyless season in north London. Furthermore, injuries have not helped their case either, with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli set to be sidelined for some time now.
The recent injuries and poor form coupled with the exit from two cup competitions should ring the bells for Pochettino. Spurs are in desperate need of reinforcements, especially in the middle of the park.
Signing a player like Youri Tielemans would go a long way in solving Spurs’ midfield conundrum. Tielemans is very quick and agile, which helps him keep possession and dribble past his opponents even in the tightest of areas. The Belgian is a technically-gifted customer, known for his wide passing range, creativity and goal-scoring ability.
The 21-year-old primarily operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can do a solid job in a holding role and on the wing if required. Tielemans will be a perfect fit for Tottenham especially after the departure of Mousa Dembele to Guangzhou R&F earlier this month.
Tottenham will undoubtedly benefit from having a player of Tielemans’ ball-playing ability in their ranks. Pochettino currently has some talented midfielders in his squad such as Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Moussa Sissoko and Oliver Skipp, who are all battling for a place in the first-team.
Except for Eriksen and Alli, however, none of them is renowned for creativity and distribution skills. To put things into perspective, the technically-gifted Tielemans would be a real coup for Tottenham. He will add some bite and energy to Pochettino’s midfield and would be a decent goal-threat in the opposition half.
All in all, the diminutive Belgian could be an inspired signing for Pochettino as Spurs look to secure a top-four spot this season.
