According to reports from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham are very interested in making a move for Alexander Nubel. The North London side are looking for a much more reliable goalkeeper and it seems like they believe that the 22-year-old is their man.
Currently contracted to Schalke, Nubel has been absolutely brilliant for the club this last season. He would go on to finish with 18 appearances in the Bundesliga with all of them coming after January, effectively replacing Ralph Farhmann.
That is not an easy job but Alexander Nubel did it with a lot of comfort, swapping places with the German goalkeeper. Furthermore, thanks in part to his performances, Nubel’s stock shot into the stratosphere.
And if there is one thing that Schalke do very well, it is producing world-class goalkeepers, as their alumni include Manuel Neuer, Jens Lehmann, Frank Rost and a few others. Alexander Nubel is on par to not just become as good as them but maybe even outdo them.
The 22-year-old has shown composure and class even when thrown into the deep end by former manager Dominic Tedesco. Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, Nubel is the perfect height for a goalkeeper, as it allows him to be large enough to block the goal and agile enough to make a difference.
Not just that, his reflexes are pretty impressive for a 22-year-old, but it’s his ability with his feet that makes Nubel perfect for Tottenham. Like most modern goalkeepers, the 22-year-old is more than capable of playing with his feet, thanks to his past as not just a holding midfielder but also a striker.
It certainly helped him make the transition into a goalkeeper, with his ambidextrousness playing an even bigger role. Not to mention, Nubel is on par to easily outdo Hugo Lloris.
The World Cup-winning Frenchman has made quite an impact over the course of his career, but has deteriorated in the last year or so. It has plagued Tottenham especially since Lloris has struggled to keep clean sheets.
Their defensive record has been terrible this season and with more than a few games over the course of the seasons showcasing exactly that.
