Tottenham opinion: Spurs shouldn’t hold out on promoting Troy Parrott

Tottenham were able to witness the exploits of teenager Troy Parrott, despite his restricted playing time against Juventus in the friendlies.

The 17-year-old occupied the pitch for the entire first half, as he put out an eye-catching display.  The Irish teenager nearly scored his dream goal before his shot was blocked, which later got converted to a goal by Erik Lamela.

Parrott had the privilege to roam anywhere on the pitch. More often than not, he was seen playing in wider areas as well as in the centre. Meanwhile, he also showed compatibility with his teammates, especially with Heung-min Son.

With that being said, Mauricio Pochettino should promote the Irish prospect into the senior team without any ado.

Parrot’ success with Tottenham reserves

Parrot is a familiar figure among Spurs’ reserves set-up, as he bagged a total of 20 goals and 5 assists combined in the U23 and U18 Premier League and UEFA Youth League as well.

His preferred position is that of a centre-forward and yet, he can play as a second striker or a winger like he did against Juve.

In the previous season, Spurs managed to cope with the absence of star striker Harry Kane even in the crucial stages of the Champions League. However, going forward, Pochettino should add enough stability to his side’s attacking prowess.

In such a case, Parrott would be a feasible addition, given that Spurs don’t need to spend much or look anywhere in the transfer window.

Moreover, the Irish prodigy will also evolve into a big player under the guidance of the former Espanyol manager. Another notable fact is that Parrott has racked up 4 goals in 4 appearances of Republic of  Ireland’s U19 team.

Final Verdict

Spurs have made definite progress in the previous season and yet, they ended up trophy-less.

Having already added the likes of Jack Clarke and Tanguy Ndombele to the current squad, the North Londoners shouldn’t hesitate to make a call on young talents like Parrott.
