Tottenham Opinion: Why Layvin Kurzawa will be a fantastic fit for Spurs?

According to a report from Calciomercato, Tottenham are one of the handful of European clubs interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain left-back, Layvin Kurzawa, who is also on the radar of Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.

The Frenchman, 26, has made just eight appearances for PSG across all competitions this season, with Juan Bernat already establishing himself at left-back for Thomas Tuchel’s side. As a result, Layvin Kurzawa will be allowed to leave Parc des Princes at the end of the season.

Keeping that in mind, Tottenham should definitely beat the likes of Manchester United and Atletico Madrid to the signature of the PSG left-back.

Tottenham didn’t sign a single player in the past two transfer windows, so there is notion that the club will spend big when the transfer market re-opens. Mauricio Pochettino’s side lack quality and depth in the squad to challenge for the Premier League title and other silverware on offer.

Spurs slipped out of the title race earlier this month, while they have already been eliminated from the FA Cup. The only hope for silverware this season is the Champions League but Pochettino’s men face a hurdle in Manchester City in the quarter-finals.

Considering how things have panned out this campaign, it’s time for Pochettino and the Tottenham board to be bold and try everything next season to win a trophy. But for that to happen, the north London outfit needs to spend big and address certain areas of the pitch.

Even though Pochettino can call upon Ben Davies and Danny Rose at left-back, a player in the mould of Kurzawa shouldn’t be let go off. Davies is certainly a solid defender but he lacks the attacking prowess to be a complete left-back. Rose has been in and out of the team this season, with the England international failing to convince Pochettino with his displays.

A perfect blend of defensive diligence and attacking prowess, Kurzawa is ideal for Pochettino’s style of play. The 26-year-old is pacey, quick, and agile and is capable of delivering sublime crosses in the box. He is a very good dribbler and his ability to pop up with important goals will come as an added bonus for Tottenham.

Verdict

Still 26, Kurzawa’s quality is undeniable and his lack of regular game-time at PSG is due to the fact that Bernat has established himself as first-choice left-back under Tuchel.

That’s why he needs to leave the French champions this summer and a move to Tottenham would be perfect, thus following the footsteps of Serge Aurier and Lucas Moura. And if Spurs manages to sign Kurzawa, one of Davies or Rose would certainly head for an exit.
