Should Tottenham Fans Be Worried About The Contract Situation Of This First Team Star?

Share

A late brace from Harry Kane saved Mauricio Pochettino some blushes as Tottenham Hotspur managed to get back to winning ways this weekend against West Ham at home in the Premier League. They now moved into the 5th place in the points table, just a few points off the top of the table and will hope to stitch a decent run of results going into the busiest part of the campaign. They will now hope to keep their hopes alive in Europa League as well but the club were dealt a blow a couple of days ago after it was revealed that star shot-stopper Hugo Lloris has put contract talks on hold.

The French international has been one of the most underestimated goal-keepers in the league and has time and again helped Spurs to some important points over the years. He is contracted with the club till 2019 but in a recent interview, Lloris revealed that this was not the right time for contract talks and that it was more important for him and the team to concentrate on the fixtures that are looming large in next few weeks. These comments have seen the fans of the club cringe about his future at the Lane but here is why his position in the squad is hardly a problem for Spurs this season.

Having being previously linked with an exit back in 2014, Lloris, who almost made a move to Manchester United, but decided to extend his contract for 5 long years. That contract will keep him at the club till 2019 which will mean that he will have two more years under his contract at the club after the end of the current season.

The amount of time left on his contract will surely scare potential suitors away and his wage demands will also play a role in making it difficult for him to find a new club. European giants like Manchester United or Real Madrid may yet be able to prize him away but that should be the least of the concerns for Pochettino at the moment.

The player himself felt that it was not the right time to talk about his personal situation with the club in the middle of a congested and tricky run of fixtures. The 29-year old is one of the most experienced players in his position in Europe and the fans will tell you that he is easily one of the best shot-stoppers to have played for the club for some time now. He has cemented a place in the starting XI at the club in all competitions for years now and his ability at the back made Spurs genuine title contenders in the previous season.

Spurs are yet again trying to launch a title race, having not lost a single game in the league so far this season, and it will be important for Pochettino to make the right decisions with fixtures coming thick and fast. The manager has a decent squad that can allow him to compete on all fronts and it will be up to him to find a balance between different competitions going into the festive period. As it is, Spurs have enough things to worry about ahead of this period and Lloris’ comments on his contract situation should not alarm the supporters.

Do you think the recent comments from the Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper might decide his future at the club?
