Top 5 Most Underused Players This Season

The transfer window is open and teams are looking to make a mad dash at signing the star that could help them move up the table but there are a few teams that have stars already present in their squad but aren’t using them all that much.

Football is a tough game and only 18 players get to take part in the match day squad, only 11 get to start and that means a lot of tough decisions are made regarding who gets to play regularly and not. One example of how things can work out is Joel Campbell who has found a new lease of life at Arsenal but that only came about due to the injuries to players such as Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott.

With so many players at their disposal, it sometimes becomes tough for a player to get regular minutes in their team. We look at five players who could have made a difference to their squad but haven’t actually been given enough chances and are being underused by their Premier League side.

5. Rickie Lambert

Lambert isn’t the youngest player in the world but he is effective and when he moved to West Brom from Liverpool at the start of the season everyone expected him to play a big part for the team, especially with Tony Pulis in the side. However the signings of Solomon Rondon has greatly reduced Lambert’s playing time and this has probably made him think about his future not only at the club but his career also, seeing he is more than 30.

4. Michael Vorm

When Vorm made a move to Tottenham from Swansea everyone expected Hugo Lloris to move to another club and when that did not happen it was a bit of a let-down for the Dutch goalkeeper. Vorm was one of the best goalkeepers during his spell with the Welsh side but moving to Tottenham and effectively sitting on the bench is a waste of the talent that the player has. Tottenham might want a couple of good goalkeepers but that does not mean that Vorm has to be the one who ends up being rusty all the time.

3. Ramires

Chelsea have had an awful time in the league and one of the reasons for that has been the poor form of Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic. The duo were exceptional last season under Jose Mourinho but have struggled this term and it is a bit of a surprise not to see Ramires play more often. The Brazilian might not be the youngest player on the pitch but he does always give his 100% and everyone knows what they will get out of him, maybe it could be time for him to search for greener pastures as well.

2. Saido Berahino

This one is a tough one to call, Tony Pulis did leave Berahino out for the transfer day fiasco that Tottenham and West Brom had a hand in. Berahino was almost frozen out of the squad before things thawed between player and club but even that was not enough for Pulis. Berahino spent quite a few weeks on the bench playing bits and parts of games, maybe if he had started a few of them, West Brom could be a few points better off.

  1. Florian Thauvin

Moving to the Premier League from Ligue 1 has worked for a few players and hasn’t for quite a few. Newcastle is the unofficial French resort for Ligue 1 players and Thauvin was one of the brightest talents that Newcastle had snapped up from across the pond. Unfortunately, for the Marseille man has only made three starts all season for the Toons and could well be heading back to France come the end of this transfer window.
