Top 5 Under Performers From The Premier League This Season: Featuring Manchester United And Liverpool Stars

Share

The Premier League might be home to some of the best players in the world, but that does not ensure that these players have the best time in a season. Playing against some of the best players is not easy but sometimes it is more than that, not being able to shift to a new country or worse, just falling out with new tactics being presented, a season might not unravel the way players expect it. The big bucks might be splashed out on these players, but that doesn’t guarantee superstar performances as we look at 5 players who have massively underperformed this season for their clubs.

5. Samir Nasri

Nasri

He might have left Arsenal to gain a few more medals but Samir Nasri has spent more time on the bench and treatment table than at the right end of the pitch. He hasn’t been able to provide much for the club either and it would be no surprise to see him being sold at the end of the season. Supremely talented but for some reason he just cannot showcase it regularly, Nasri has only scored 3 goals all season for the Sky Blues and certainly hasn’t played up to his ability.

4. Angel Di Maria

di maria

Probably the most hyped up player to join the Premier League this season, Di Maria started the season well but then tailed off during midseason and wasn’t really seen after that. Louis Van Gaal is a taskmaster and seeing Di Maria fail about, especially in the loss against West Bromwich Albion when his crosses were comparable to mine (I haven’t played football in over 5 years) seemed to tell a lot about his season for Manchester United. Maybe second season syndrome would actually make Di Maria better?

3. Mario Balotelli

Balotelli

This one was always a gamble; even Rodgers stated that when he signed Balotelli and if one thing can be proven is that Balotelli has contributed to the Liverpool cause, not by scoring and creating goals but by being their best bet on social media handles. He has done more for Liverpool on Instagram and Facebook than on the pitch but Liverpool did not have to pay £16 million for a social media handler.

2. Yaya Toure

Cake, off season was all about Cake and Toure. Yaya seemed miffed that Manchester City missed out on his birthday that he was willing to move away from the club but cue a few months later and obviously a ton of apology cakes, it hasn’t really done much for Toure. He has had an average season and some of his performances have been frustrating for Manchester City. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Toure leave the club or be sold by the club at the end of this season.

1. Radamel Falcao

Radamel Falcao

One of the most expensive players, at least in terms of wages, it isn’t all Falcao’s fault for his inability to click after such a major injury but the Colombian should have spent a little more time recuperating rather than trying hard to get into the flight for Brazil 2014. Signing for United on loan might have been a good move initially but he has not been able to hit his high notes and has only scored 4 goals for United this season, surely not the way both parties expected this season to go.
