Top 5 Manchester United Stars Who Deserve Another Season To Prove Their Worth

Share

This season has been a very poor one for Manchester United considering that once considered perennial title contenders under Sir Alex Ferguson, this year there are possibilities that they won’t even make the top 4. There are various reasons for this fall from grace and one of them is that David Moyes could not assert his ideas on a team that is pretty average. It is widely expected that Manchester United will be having a clear-out of their squad in order to sign fresh players who will bring more quality to the club.

Here are 5 players who deserve another chance despite an ordinary showing this season:

5. Danny Welbeck

Welbeck has always been criticized for not having the killer instinct to score more goals. Many of the fans want Danny out of the team but his inclusion here is because he has been wrongly judged in this season.

Welbeck has managed to get regular first team football under Moyes and has bagged some goals for himself in the Premier League. Among so many stars that are under performing, Welbeck has tried better. He has put in unparalleled work-rate and dedication and despite the fact that his game-play isn’t the best, he deserves at least another season.

4. Marouane Fellaini

The big Belgian has had a very hard time in Manchester United. Once being the talisman in Everton, Fellaini looked out of place in many key games in a red shirt. Fellaini looked as if he had lost his agility and is frustrated by the team’s performance. Everton, which are used to play tactically with the 4-2-3-1 system, are completely different from Manchester United who like to play two strikers up-front.

It is harsh to judge the Belgian after just one season. It is also justified that a player bought in for so much money must not be sold after just one season. With a plethora of new signings, Fellaini  can prove himself to be an asset and rise again in the fans’ eyes.

3. Antonio Valencia

Valencia has been a pale shadow of himself this season. With such an athletic physique and a strong engine, The Ecuador international fell severely short of defensive work rate as opponent full backs strolled behind him to torture the United defence. He has not been contributing much to the attack as well, as his crosses are not as lethal as they once were.

Despite that, in the past few games, Valencia has shown clear signs of desire to improve and perform at the big stage. His Champions League performances have been promising. Valencia can be important for Moyes next season.

2. Nani

Nani has been in and out of the side with injury and lack of form playing their parts into hampering his game time. Nani is one of the most talented wingers in this current Manchester United team. Having world class skills with the ball and amazing dribbling ability matched with pace, Nani can be a huge asset to the team if managed well.

He has not performed well this season. But the promise he had shown once, the potential to be among the better players of the world can’t be ignored. Among many other stars’ performances, Nani still has played better. In a new system where Moyes is expected to surgically transform the philosophy, Nani would get chances to explore in-field and show his creativity as well.

1. Javier Hernandez

If it is anyone who deserves another season in United, it has to be Hernandez. Fondly known as Chicharito, the Mexican used to play key substitute roles under Sir Alex and poach some crucial goals. This season Hernandez has been crying out for some game time. His reputation of a super sub was not even used fully as he rarely made those regular tactical super sub appearances.

But his goal-poaching skills haven’t diminished as yet. Hernandez, in a more tactical environment can be among the most lethal weapons for United to grab some crucial goals. Chicharito was always known for his work rate in the penalty box, but he was neglected while team selection as Moyes regularly chose Welbeck for his box-to-box work rate. United are expected to buy another play maker as they look set to sign players like Toni Kroos to replace their legend Paul Scholes in the centre. Chicharito will have more chances to run in behind the defence and torment keepers once he gets thesupply.
