Top 5 Dribblers In The Premier League This Season

Dribbling is an art that is certainly on the rise these days, contrary to the opinions of some thinkers. Dribblers who like to take players on and beat them are found in every nook and corner of this world but are most evident in England, where there is a presence of one in every single team- big or small.

Last season, it was Eden Hazard who had recorded the most amount of dribbles across Europe alongside Lionel Messi and Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi. This season, there have been dribblers who have caught the eye, although haven’t got as much credit as Hazard, but the Premier League acts a breeding ground for such players. Whether you take Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez or Cristiano Ronaldo himself.

Keeping this in mind, here are five of the best dribblers in the Premier League this season.

5. Anthony Martial – Manchester United

The 19-year-old French sensation has made a total of 3.2 dribbles every game this season and his ability to take players on and beat them is something United have been thankful to. Although, they need more of that, but Martial had carried the burden of the side at one point of time and had done very well in doing so. Even against Leicester last night, the former Lyon and Monaco man looked composed on the ball, whenever he took players on to beat them.

He has scored 3 times in the Premier League, but apart from goals, he has looked United’s best and the most promising player on the pitch.

4. Wilfred Zaha – Crystal Palace

The former Manchester United man has made United regret their decision of letting him go. He has recorded 3.3 dribbles per game this season and had fitted into Alan Pardew’s philosophy that involves hurting the opposition at the break by pressing up the pitch very well.

Zaha’s brace yesterday against struggling Newcastle is indicative of how dangerous the Englishman can be on his day if given the time to find his spark. United never gave him that time, Palace did and they’re reaping rewards.

3. Eden Hazard- Chelsea

He may have endured a disappointing third season under Jose Mourinho, but the talented Belgian has, irrespective of everything, recorded 3.4 dribbles this season. The problem has been in completing those dribbles and in creating chances.

He hasn’t scored even once this season and has managed to grab just two assists thus far. It’s been a tough learning curve but getting back up after hitting the ground is something that defines whether a player is world class or not.  He has lost a lot of confidence this season and his performance against Norwich was a more improved one. Hopefully, more improvement lies ahead.

2. Alexis Sanchez- Arsenal

The list would be soundly incomplete if he’s not here, this season or the previous one. He has again, blown defenses away at will and has made 3.4 dribbles this season, every game. Although Hazard made a similar amount of dribbles but the accuracy lacks in him and accuracy is where Alexis excels.

One of the most hard working Arsenal players, Sanchez is a massive threat to defenses and is a scary presence to the opposition defenses too. His link up with Mesut Ozil has been telepathic and the Chilean has scored six times this season, with the stock set to rise even more.

1.Riyad Mahrez- Leicester City

The Algerian Di Maria has been a revelation, to say the least, he has taken a lot of people by surprise, experts and fans alike. He has made the most amount of dribbles in the Premier League- 3.7 and stands at 8th in most dribbles per game in Europe, behind Palermo’s Franco Vazquez, Sofiane Boufal, and Hatem Ben Arfa.

He’s the third most rated player across Europe, as per WhoScored and has accumulated a rating of 8.20, behind only Neymar and Lionel Messi, which is very impressive indeed.
