Top 4 EPL Golden Glove Contenders Including Arsenal, Chelsea And Everton Stars

Being a goalkeeper these days is a tough job. Fans all over the world talk about the gorgeous strikes or the sublime finishes at the back of the net. Yet no one remembers that one save which at the end made the proverbial difference. As we are just ten game weeks away from drawing the curtains of yet another intriguing Premier League campaign, today we here at Soccersouls provide our readers with the top contenders for the Golden Glove Award (the shot stopper with the most clean sheets)

4. Hugo Lloris

Lloris

Tottenham may have been subjected to be at the wrong end of some humiliating scorelines, but due credit to Hugo Lloris who has rightly picked up eleven shut outs in the league. The Frenchman under Tim Sherwood has been more disciplined making top draw saves and earning every bit of the wages that Spurs shell out on him. Lloris no doubt will also be integral to French hopes in the coming World Cup in Brazil. If he continues his good form, even top four is a possibility for the spurs.

3. Tim Howard

The 34 year old is one of the main reasons behind Everton’s fascinating display this season and change of style under new boss Roberto Martinez. The American has just been immaculate under the sticks for the Toffees, picking up nine clean sheets and has pulled out numerous saves to keep his team in the hunt in a majority of encounters. Everton have an easy set of fixtures with only Arsenal and Manchester United amongst the tough fixtures, that too at home, Howard may well win the award given Everton’s defensive discipline and unwillingness to let goals in.

2. Petr Cech

Perhaps the best goalkeeper in the league, Chelsea’s Czech shot stopper Petr Cech also boasts of having 12 shut outs like Szczesny. Cech won the award twice in 2004-05 and 2009-10 season and it might be perhaps the third occasion when he receives the award courtesy of Chelsea’s easy remaining fixtures in the Premier League season. With Chelsea having comparatively easier fixtures than other title contenders, Cech’s form will be crucial in the title chase.

1. Wojciech Szczesny

Szczesny – the rising goal keeper

Right at the top of our list is Arsenal’s number one Wojciech Szczesny who leads the charts with the most clean sheets at 12. Arsenal are yet to play tough games, markedly against Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City and Everton all away, the Pole might not muster up clean sheets more than he would have liked, but probably has done well to grab the prestigious award. No doubt he has been one of the reasons why Arsenal are right in touch with the leaders at the zenith of the Premier League table.
