The final stretch of Premier League games is upon us and while there might be no games in the weekend thanks or no thanks to the International break, it does provide us some time to reflect on what has been another brilliant Premier League season. While Chelsea seem to have wrapped up the title, barring some miracle, there still is the usual race for the top 4 and the race to avoid relegation.
We look at the 3 players who have not only lit up their team but have lit up the league with their performances. With individual awards now counting almost as much as the big trophies, here is our list of the top 3 player of the year nominees.
1. David De Gea
If De Gea had not been the goalkeeper at Manchester United, they would have been much worse than the 4th place they currently are in. They might be playing some good football now but at the start of the season it was De Gea’s heroics which helped United win points. A goalkeeper who not only saved his team from losses but ensured they don’t lose points.
In fact, De Gea has been so brilliant for United, he could be on his way to Real Madrid. He has been linked incessantly with a move back to La Liga and his performances this season surely should make him a nominee for the player of the year.
2. Nemanja Matic
While Matic was brought back into the Chelsea team in a different role, he has flourished to an incredible extent. If Chelsea play a game without Matic, it seems that their engine from midfield is missing, that is how important he has become to this Chelsea squad.
He not only has an ability to pass but has made more tackles than any other player in the Premier League this season and is the midfield tank that most teams would love to have. Matic deserves to be in the list of the top players this season.
3. Alexis Sanchez
Coming into a new league, new country, and new style of play, more physical defenders and still scoring and assisting goals? That is Alexis Sanchez for you, there might have been a couple of doubts about his ability to perform in the Premier League but the Chilean has blown that to smithereens with his incredible turnout for the Gunners.
Sanchez has scored 13 goals and assisted in 7 more for Arsenal in the league and surely deserves to be in the running for the Premier League player of the year.
Of course we would have liked to nominate a few more players and here are some players who just missed out on the top 3. Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney & David Silva
