Top 3 Bargain Buys That Made Chelsea FC Super Strong

Share

Traditionally, Chelsea FC are known to be a team who spend a fortune in making a winning squad. Right after Roman Abramovich took charge of the club, he decided to invest heavily in the squad and now they can surely claim they have been successful in doing so. But there has also been a downside to this. In this process of getting the best players they have lost a couple of good young talents, Daniel Sturridge being the most prominent among them.

While many may not realise is that Chelsea have not always bought star players from other clubs, but instead invested in youngsters who have later turned out to be huge successes. There are lots of examples of this from the past and present squad where Chelsea have taken a player at a very tender age for a low price and then groomed the player to be one of the best in the world. Here we take a look at three such men from the present squads who are bargain buys for Chelsea.

1. Cesar Azpilicueta

Cesar Azpilicueta

The 25 year old Spanish defender was bought from Marseille for a fee of £7 million and slowly he has become one of the best in his position. The biggest asset of Azpilicueta is his versatility. Though he is primarily a right back, he can do the job of a left back with panache and in Chelsea, he is primarily manning the left back position. So vast has been the impact of Azpilicueta in the Premier League that he has been taken into a star studded Spanish team and he is being given preference over many. The fact that he is still young and has immense scope to improve as a player is also a big draw and we hope to see a lot of Azpilicueta in future.

2. Thibaut Courtois

The Belgian goalkeeper is one of the best shotstoppers in the world and the way he is improving, he can be the greatest keeper in the world in some years. And to think that Chelsea got him for £7.9 million  was a steal. He was transferred from Genk to Chelsea, but he spent three seasons at Atletico Madrid and that is where he vastly improved as a player. Chelsea recalled him this season and now he is the starter ahead of Cech. The 22 year old has already attracted the attention of the football world and under Mourinho he can only grow as a player.

3. Loic Remy

The French striker joined Chelsea from QPR this season for a fee of £10.5 million and he is certainly a brilliant player in his own right. He would be the second choice to Diego Costa in the Chelsea team, but he has the talent to step up whenever he is called from the bench to make an impact. Already he has shown his class in the Chelsea jersey scoring a goal in just two appearances and Remy can certainly add more to that this season with a very talented midfield behind him.
