Despite Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insisting publicly that he has no plans to recall Cameron Carter-Vickers from Sheffield United, there is a worry he may have little choice in the matter should Tottenham’s defensive injuries get any worse.
Toby Alderweireld is now out until around February and Juan Foyth, a 19-year-old centre-back signed in the summer from Argentinian club Estudiantes, is waiting for a chance but has not settled in properly, having made only three appearances so far.
To his credit, Pochettino has insisted that Carter-Vickers’ loan move to Bramall Lane was about getting experience for the player and that they will do what is best for him. However, if it is decided between all parties that Carter-Vickers should return to Spurs, he will leave a big hole at the back for Sheffield United to fill.
If he does leave, however, Chris Wilder may look once more at a young, quick and strong defender on a short-term deal.
Moore is highly rated and is currently out on loan in Belgium with Oud-Heverlee Leuven at present. However, he is due back in the Midlands on January 1st and will be available again for transfer.
Moore is right-footed, occupies the same areas as Carter-Vickers and is fairly comparable in status at this point with the Tottenham man. He could do a reasonable job in what could be another short-term deal.
He has made 20 appearances this season in Belgium for Leuven, which means he’d be fit and fully ready to go. He would have no problem settling into a Championship set-up like United’s.
This has been a coming of age season for Mason who signed for Donny in the summer, from Aston Villa.
The 20-year-old had been on loan at Doncaster before and is somewhat of a favourite there now. However, he will outgrow them pretty soon the way he is playing and may well welcome a move to the Championship already.
A former Southampton junior, Mason has made 25 appearances in all competitions already this term for Rovers and, much like Moore, would arrive fully fit and in the zone, as opposed to some other young defenders made available for loans by top clubs who would have played reserve football in front of three men and a dog.
