Why should West Ham United sell striker Jordan Hugill

West Ham United striker Jordan Hugill was snubbed by new manager Manuel Pellegrini this pre-season to shrug off any chances of his revival at the London Stadium.

The Englishman was signed in January by David Moyes for £10m from championship club Preston North End. However, he couldn’t feature much in the latter half of last season, appearing in only 3 games. With the Hammers making new signings and the manager snubbing him in pre-season, it seems like Hugill is fighting for a lost cause.

The 26-year-old is a quality centre-forward who has done well in the lower leagues of England. West Ham won’t be doing justice to his talent by keeping and making him sit on the fringes all the time.

Here’s why the Hammers should sell him, in a deal which will be agreed on by both by the player and the club:

Hugill needs to play regularly to show his talent

The striker scored 8 goals in 26 appearances in the Championship for Preston North End last season before moving to east London.

This shows he has the talent and expertise in front of goal to threaten defences. The 26-year-old needs perpetual game time in order to prove his worth, which he may not get under Pellegrini.

Hugill is a tall striker (183cm) who can play the physical game and shrug off centre-backs with ease. He has the aerial threat which makes him a genuine nuisance for defenders from crosses and set-pieces. The Englishman had an aerial success rate of 5.7 per game in the Championship.

Furthermore, the striker can come a bit deep to create space for midfielder runners and likes to open up defences in a flash.

So overall, he is a handful when given proper opportunities on the pitch. Going to a new club will make complete sense for him and his talent can be showcased elsewhere.

Verdict

If ever there is a case for both parties being happy with a move, here is a perfect example. While Hugill would love to move out of West Ham in order to get playing time elsewhere, the club should also sell him bearing in mind that the manager may not deploy him next season.
