Manchester United

Time for goodbye – Man United would do well to offload this expensive flop and invest in a centre-back

Why it’s high time Manchester United offload Alexis Sanchez

After mounting an inspirational comeback against Newcastle, Manchester United succumbed to a late equaliser from Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley. The Red Devils have made one of the worst starts to the season under Jose Mourinho.

United are currently languishing way outside the top four and have been playing catch up since the start of the season. A number of their stars have failed to hit the expected heights and one man that tops that list is Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean was involved in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan make the switch to Arsenal. But it seems as though its the Gunners who’ve definitely got the better deal.

Not once has Sanchez looked like his old self and has endured a largely frustrating spell with the Red Devils so far. Since making the move in January, Sanchez has scored just 3 goals in 19 league appearances for Manchester United, two of which came last season.

The former Barcelona winger was once known for his prolific goal scoring record and took the Premier League by storm after making the move to the Emirates. But he has turned from a pure goal machine into a fringe squad member in the last year.

It would be best for the Red Devils to consider offloading the Chilean soon. Though Sanchez didn’t cost the club much in terms of transfer fees, he certainly is one of the highest paid players at the club. United could offload him for a significant fee and use those funds to address other key areas in the squad.

Sanchez is often far too predictable on the ball and gives away possession too cheaply as well. He has managed just 6 shots on target in 7 appearances this season, though 3 of those appearances came off the bench. Over the last few games, Jose Mourinho has left the Chilean on the bench and has resorted to using him as a late substitute.

Alexis Sanchez

Though Sanchez came on to score the winner against Newcastle United, he barely made an impact against Chelsea. He has looked completely off the pace, has lacked panache and confidence in the final third.

The best decision for Manchester United would be to cash in on the former Arsenal winger and bring in some much-needed funds. Mourinho needs a new centre-back and the money from selling Sanchez could serve that purpose.
