Three Potential Ins And Outs For Everton In The January Window

Everton’s season has been a rollercoaster of sorts, so far. They spent big last summer and were touted to be contenders for a top six finish under Ronald Koeman.

However, they started the season poorly and a slew of disappointing performances put them in danger of relegation. They eventually sacked Koeman and caretaker manager David Unsworth managed to haul them out of danger, following which the club appointed Sam Allardyce.

Since then, the Toffees have looked quite solid and even forayed into the top ten. Currently sitting in the 9th spot, Everton look safe but they will still want to nurse higher aspirations and push for a higher finish.

For that to happen though, they will need to shuffle the pack a bit in terms of bringing in new players and offloading some current ones. With the January window up and running, this does seem like the ideal time for Allardyce to sort this out and with that in mind, here are three potential ins and outs for the Toffees in this transfer window.

Outs

Kevin Mirallas

Mirallas is talented but something is not working out for him at Everton. At a time when Allardyce needs all hands on deck, he cannot afford to have a player like Mirallas, who has been so frustratingly inconsistent and weak.

One might argue that he has not played enough this season but even when he did, Mirallas hardly showed any signs of improvement or even interest. To fulfil the club’s ambition of a higher finish, a player like the Belgian could prove to be a roadblock going forward, thus making an exit sound like the best option for both parties involved.

Morgan Schneiderlin

After a failed Manchester United stint, Schneiderlin joined Everton but lately, his performances have only gone downhill. He lacks movement and domination and lacks a sense of sharpness that is required.

The Frenchman has failed to provide Idrissa Gueye with support in the middle and that has made for some inefficient displays in the middle of the park. Truth be told, he has been far from his best ever since he left Southampton and perhaps Allardyce should try to work out a bargain deal and free up a wage bill.

Ins

Steven N’Zonzi

After the sale of Ross Barkly to Chelsea, Everton will be without one of their key midfielders and should turn to N’Zonzi, who was linked with moving to Goodison Park this January.

The 29-year-old’s future with Sevilla seems questionable, to say the least. Hence, a move to join the Toffees could greatly benefit the club as well N’Zonzi. He has loads of talent and could provide greater stability and power in the midfield area. Moreover, if Schneiderlin also moves out of the club, a move for N’Zonzi could truly provide some much-needed depth for the team.
