Three Super Strikers Who Can Make This Chelsea Side Unconquerable

Share

With Jose Mourinho revealing that he is going all out for a striker in the summer, we have to look at the strikers that Mourinho can buy. It is also rumoured strongly that Chelsea will look to offload many players who aren’t getting first team action or are not a part of Mourinho’s plan. With all considerations in mind, Chelsea would have good transfer budget  to spend. With most of the top strikers in new clubs or having signed contract extensions, we look at possible signings.

3. Diego Costa

Diego Costa

The Atletico Madrid centre-forward has had an outstanding season where he has been very prolific in front of goal. One of the main reasons for Atletico topping the La Liga table and still surviving in the Champions League, Diego Costa would not be an economical buy as he is already drawn interest from many teams in Europe.

Aggressive, strong and clinical, Diego Costa has accumulated 25 goals in 30 appearances in the league, competing with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. Mourinho can make him one of his top priorities as there is a good chance that he will have a good world cup with Spain and Chelsea may need to splash huge amount to cash to lure the striker away from the Madrid club.

2. Radamel Falcao

Falcao

Falcao has been a long term target for Chelsea but they were unable to buy him as heavy paying Monaco lured him to France. But lately, Falcao has been unhappy with his involvement in the French League and may want to play for a better team in a better league.

Falcao is out injured and is mostly going to miss the world cup, but his performances in the French Ligue 1 has been inconsistent yet yielding some prolific numbers. Falcao would most probably cost Chelsea around 60 million, but his recent injury might cause some concern for the Chelsea boss. Buying a striker who is not fit enough for such a price can be a huge risk.

1. Edinson Cavani

Cavani

Cavani has always been a target along with Falcao and Chelsea were again beaten by a French team, this time PSG. Edinson Cavani is the perfect choice for the functional game-play of Chelsea.

Cavani has strength, athleticism and great shooting abilities. Moreover, the Uruguayan likes to work hard on the pitch, giving his 100 per cent despite him being a striker, something which Mourinho saw in Wayne Rooney as well. The Blues need a towering presence in the heart of their attack and Cavani would fit in perfectly. He can be the able replacement for Didier Drogba.

Chelsea’s current crop of strikers have scored only 15 goals between them in the league, a meagre return. Their inability to get their shots away against teams defending deep, has been the main reason for their failure. Samuel Eto’o recently regained some of his world-class form, but his age factor is always against him as he got injured regularly this season. Same with Fernando Torres who has become injury prone this season and under confident ever since he is Chelsea.

Edinson Cavani can cure all of Chelsea’s problems. He recently hinted about a possible summer move as he seems to be frustrated by Laurent Blanc’s tactics of using him in a support role to big man Zlatan Ibrahimovic. When asked about interest from Chelsea, Cavani said that Chelsea were interested in him in the summer but PSG had real confidence in their project involving him. He expressed his love for the English game as he said, “Yes,I love it.”
