Three Super Alternatives Tottenham Should Look To Sign After Completing This Permanent Move For The Argentine Defender

Share

It’s always nice when a loan move works out perfectly for everyone involved in the deal, as some players who couldn’t have any playing time at all in their current clubs wind up leaving where they’re needed and end up becoming an instant starter for their new institution.

And this is exactly the situation of one of Tottenham’s loanees right now, as it seems like AS Roma are intending to retain Tottenham’s outcast Federico Fazio on a permanent basis, considering that the Argentinian has really settled in Italy and has become a fan favourite for the Italian side.

Mauricio Pochettino has managed to create a complete team and has put together a very decent process since his arrival at White Hart Lane, so it would be kind of difficult for the other players to take the spot of any guy in Tottenham’s starting XI, so staying at Roma would be the best thing to do for Fazio at the moment.

And, considering the fact that one of Tottenham’s biggest strength is their defence, you know Pochettino won’t let Fazio walk away without having at least a couple of aces under his sleeve and a backup plan, so expect the Spurs side to be quite aggressive in their pursuit of another centre back to reinforce their squad, even if he comes off the bench.

So, let’s take a look at three possible alternatives for the Argentinian boss to consider during this ongoing transfer window.

Chris Smalling

Jose Mourinho isn’t pleased at all with Smalling, and even if he once was an indisputable starter and one of the main guys at Manchester United, it seems like his career at Old Trafford has might to an end.

Obviously, Smalling wouldn’t be starting at White Hart Lane either, but considering that Tottenham are now playing in European competitions as well, he could have much more playing time there if he decides to leave Jose Mourinho’s tutelage.

Mamadou Sakho

Various teams have shown interest in Liverpool’s misbehaved misfit Mamadou Sakho, as the French centre back is currently being relegated to play with Liverpool’s development squad since Jurgen Klopp sent him back home during the team’s preseason tour.

Sakho was at the peak of his career before all those issues that took him off the pitch, so making a run at him would be a highly risky move that could pay huge benefits if Pochettino manages to tame the troublemaker.

Emanuel Mammana

The 20-year-old Argentinian has already been linked with Tottenham in the past, and the fact that he was actively scouted by Mauricio Pochettino isn’t a secret to anybody, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he continues his pursuit for his compatriot until a deal is done.

Mammana has a bright future ahead of him and even if it would probably be better for his career if he decides to stay put at Olympique Lyon at the moment, he’d definitely develop into an outstanding player under Poch’s command.
