The inevitable news of David Moyes’ sacking along with Ryan Giggs’ appointment as the Interim Manager was announced on Tuesday. This leads us to a host of good managerial options linked with Manchester United for next season- Klopp, van Gaal, Queiroz as well as Simeone. Many fans also felt that the club dealt harshly with David Moyes considering that the team he inherited was a poor one held together by thin threads of philosophy which only Sir Alex Ferguson knew how to handle. Despite that, here we look at Jurgen Klopp and why United need him desperately. Klopp has already ruled himself out of the Manchester United job. The 46-year-old was reported as saying,
“Man Utd is a great club and I feel very familiar with their wonderful fans. But my commitment to Borussia Dortmund and the people is not breakable.”
However, here we look at three reasons why United should continue to pursue their man.
When Dortmund signed him in 2008, they had finished 13th, just 9 points away from relegation and in his first season itself, Dortmund finished 6th, with notable changes in style and philosophy. Klopp has the ability to work with any team, as his Dortmund team was an average one initially which he converted into permanent title contenders until Bayern Munich started raiding the club. Moyes got a team which was arguably not of the quality of the Champions of EPL, but a team which was successfully managed by Sir Alex. Arguably, a 26 year old philosophy could not be changed by David Moyes and Man Utd saw one of their worst performances since a very long time.

We saw Moyes shatter Man Utd transfer record by bringing in Juan Mata from fellow rivals Chelsea. Mata, no doubt he is a wonderful top class talent who can benefit any club with his presence in the squad, but it was hard to understand where the Spaniard would fit in at Old Trafford. Manchester United always played with traditional wide midfielders and a strike partnership with a central midfield partnership. Always a 4-4-2, which even David Moyes employed.
Mata, who was already proven to be an underperformer in wide roles, was still used as a winger in this system highlighting Moyes’ inability to change the formation to suit his needs. Klopp is a different type of manager. If he feels he needs to have a change in the team, he would make sure he implements it. Much like how Jose Mourinho sold his best player of the past two seasons in order to make Chelsea a title contending team from just another Top 4 team. Klopp knows which players to buy as his scouting is of high quality and sharpness. His signings included a young Shinji Kagawa, Kevin Grosskreutz, Robert Lewandowski, Nuri Sahin, Mats Hummels and Lukasz Piszczek who have become the integral part of Dortmund now.

Jurgen Klopp is also known to have successfully implemented beautiful yet high paced aggressive football in his German outlet. Unlike David Moyes, who was only primarily known for having guided Everton to a strong Premier League status as a potential top 4 contender, Klopp also has a distinct managerial style to his credit.
United should have gone for a manager such as Klopp in the first place. Managers like Klopp, Mourinho, Wenger or Pep Guardiola, all have a set philosophy which they use to manage. Any manager with no proper philosophy, or to be fair to Moyes, no prior experience of handling a big team, is only going to fail with Manchester United. Moyes wanted to build his team and try out various tactics, which definitely means he did not have an assured philosophy in his mind when he came to Man United. It was evident until his last game, where he still hasn’t figured out his back four. Klopp fortunately has a philosophy as well as confidence to drive a team, much comparable to a young Arsene Wenger.
