Manchester United has six players, whose contracts are expiring this year, with team captain Nemanja Vidic is the most notable name amongst them. The 32-year-old’s future remains unknown, however his agent Silvano Martina hinted that his client is may leave Old Trafford when his contract expires. In that case, the veteran centre-will have numerous offers to choose from, with many top clubs already showing some interest.
Here are the three reasons why Manchester United should renew their captain’s contract:
1. No young replacement
Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are the only three centre-backs that would be left in United’s first team, after Vidic’s departure, as Rio Ferdinand’s contract is also due to expiry this summer. The Serb has no successor at the club, considering Jones or Evans would replace Ferdinand, aged 35. Nevertheless neither Jones, Smalling nor Evans are ready to receive the baton from the captain, defence leader Nemanja Vidic. If the Serbian international left the Red Devils they’d have to search for a young, efficent centre-back outside the Old Trafford and extra founds would have been had to spent.
2. Still in-form
Despite missing some of this year’s games due to concussion, Nemanja Vidic is reaching his 200th game as a Red Devil and, at the age of 32, is still one of the best defenders in the English Premier League. He is smart in the defending and remains proficient in every physical aspect, including great aerial game, not only in defence but also the attack. Vidic, with a header, scored the only goal for United in Capital One Cup‘s first leg 2-1 loss againt Sunderland on Tuesday. In United, this man is the only footballer to prevent the Red Devils‘ defence from falling into pieces ahead of the second season half and a new deal for the Serb would surely be a great boost for the whole team.
3. The Captain..The Legend…The Leader
A loss of a captain is one of the most demotivating incidents for a team. Just when Manchester United need support the most, this kind of news would be a huge blow for the Red Devils. Vidic is more than just a player at the Old Trafford. He has been playing now 8 years for Man Utd and will soon celebrate his third year as the club’s captain. The Serb motivates, aswell as gives a huge boost for his teammates, even when all the hopes are lost, Nemanja helps the team out. He should not leave. He is a big player. He is a big captain.
