Three Reasons Why Arsenal Have Failed Miserably This Season

Share

Arsenal are struggling in the Premier League as well as the Champions League. They are hit hard with multiple injuries to key men and lack of quality matches against average Premier League teams as well. While they’ve scraped through the challenge posed by Anderlecht with a late comeback in the UCL group stage match, the current scenario looks glum for the Gunners who started the season hoping for a title contending season. Here are three reasons why Arsenal have failed miserably this season, in the start of their campaign.

No signings for a key position

Arsenal needed at least one defensive midfielder to shield the back four, and one top striker. They signed Welbeck, a good striker who had troubled times at Man Utd but their midfield was left with a hole in the center. They don’t have a player who is capable of dominating the midfield physically as well as in terms of ball rotation. Flamini is too weak physically and too average technically while Arteta is a great passer, he lacks the pace and the strength to stop top teams from breaching the midfield. The disappointing results and the flair players being overworked is one result of not having a specialized defensive player in the team.

Wenger is very naïve in his tactics

Wenger is a legendary manager but his philosophical approach to modern football is very tactically naïve as he fails to step up against the real competitors and is easily read. After the Community Shield win, fans hoped for a positive Arsenal. But his team, punctured with injuries must be dealt with strong tactical awareness to prevent loss of points, but Wenger is all too predictable for even the average teams which escape with draws. Plus playing Özil wide is a gamble which resulted in even more pressure and a knee injury for the star.

The injuries

Well, the major reason and the most important of all reasons, is the injury crisis of the team. Arsenal is always the club which suffers the most with injuries and it is an enigma, as people say it’s pure bad luck or there is a problem in Wenger’s training methods. However, one thing is sure, it is very unfortunate for the Gunners and the squad is extremely depleted because of that. The lack of a fully fit squad at any given time is the main reason for Arsenal’s failure till now.
