3 Players Chelsea Should Drop To Win The Title Including Oscar

Share

As Fabian Delph’s outrageous back flick went in, Villa Park erupted in what could be a hugely significant moment in this year’s Premier League campaign. A fine performance from Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa side ensured Chelsea returned to Stamford Bridge empty handed and hurl Jose Mourinho’s men their first league defeat in 2014. Willian and Ramires were rightly sent off by referee Chris Foy while Mourinho was also sent to the stands for incessant protesting on the sidelines.

With all of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal securing victories of their own, the League title may well be decided at the death as all the four teams have the capability to go all the way. Mourinho however must contemplate what went wrong with his players and take due action. To help the Portuguese, we here at Soccersouls decided to give Chelsea a reality check and provide the right balance to the squad by dropping three of the following players.

1. Fernando Torres:

Torres

The Spaniard cut a sorry figure against the Clarets and Blue, having an absolute shocker on the pitch. His first touch let him down time and again and hardly looked effective in front of goal. Chelsea’s plan was simple, they would break down Villa by providing Torres with balls to run at, taking advantage of the space left unmarked by the right back, who was constantly barging forward. El Nino however, looked a shadow of his former self as both Baker and Ron Vlaar made sure the former Liverpool man was second best to everything on the pitch. Hardly did the Spaniard press the Villa defense and his directionless running rarely caused any sort of worries for the back four of the home side. Chelsea fans would express a strong feeling of disapproval but Torres should be relegated to bench in upcoming games.

2. Oscar:

Oscar Chelsea

I wouldn’t perhaps be the first columnist who would say Chelsea’s recent wins have masked Oscar’s slump in form in the past few weeks. The Brazilian had a brilliant start to the season playing in his favourite number ten role dispossessing Juan Mata in the starting eleven. Mata was later sold to Manchester United in January but Oscar hasn’t quite won over the Chelsea fans with his present outings on the pitch. His creative influence, which was highly talked about at the beginning of the season now seems pedestrian and he offers very little playing in the pockets of space in behind the lone striker up front. Mourinho should look to rotate the Brazilian giving either of Hazard or Willian a free roaming role in the advanced position playing in form Andre Schurrle out wide.

3. Ramires:

The Brazilian lost his cool at the tag end of the encounter against Aston Villa and earned a deserved red card for what was a bone crunching tackle. Ramires who has earned his reputation in the Chelsea squad as a hardworker, always running for the cause and also moving forward to aid the Chelsea attacks. However, he needs to have some rest on the sidelines as he looks out of the game at times with clueless positioning and leaving spaces behind, just like how Westwood and Delph combined to the build up of the Villa goal in the weekend. Frank Lampard should be playing more alongside Matic to give Chelsea more attacking verve and imagination in the middle of the park, creating for his team sitting deep or going forward.
