Three Midfielders Who Could Transform Manchester United In January

Share

Manchester United’s convincing 3-0 win over Aston Villa has led to some pundits suggesting that they are finally getting to grips with life under David Moyes and to add to that, last night’s victory over Stoke City in the Capital One Cup quarter-finals will be seen as a major boost for the Red Devils going into the festive season.

However, they are still 10 points off the top of the table but with all their rivals tripping over each other, there is still a chance they can defend their Premier League title.

To do this though, Moyes must do what he failed to achieve in the summer and sign a creative midfielder and here are three possible candidates who could find themselves cast as Paul Scholes’ long-term successor and would be well worth keeping an eye on in the football transfer betting specials.

Koke

The name that’s recently been mentioned by a number of sources has been Atletico Madrid starlet Koke, who is seen by many in Spain as the heir apparent to Xavi in the national team.

The 21-year-old recently made his debut for La Roja and is very much one of the key reasons for Atletico’s magnificent start to the La Liga campaign.

However, With Diego Simeone’s men going so well, it looks unlikely that his club will be willing to part with one of their best players in the middle of the season, but if the Old Trafford outfit are prepared to break the bank, he could certainly be the answer to their problems.

Ander Herrera

Athletic Bilbao’s Ander Herrera was the name on many people’s lips in the summer, with the Red Devils allegedly failing to match the £30.5m million buyout clause in his contract.

Herrera is very much a rough diamond, capable of moments of pure brilliance while also having a habit of going missing when it matters, most notably in the 2012 Europa League final.

The 24-year-old has himself admitted that even he doesn’t feel he can justify the price tag that the Basque club are asking for his services but if the Red Devils feel he is the man to fill the void, especially with him not being ineligible for the knockout stages of the Champions League, the former Real Zaragoza man might be on his way to Manchester.

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan was widely being tipped to join Real Madrid in the summer, following his heroics in guiding Borussia Dortmund to last season’s Champions League final.

However, his stock has fallen somewhat in recent months due to him playing just once this term because of a back injury, while he is by no means guaranteed a place in the side when he returns courtesy of the form of Nuri Sahin in the Dortmund engine room.

Gundogan is undoubtedly a huge talent, though, and if he gets fit, he could be the answer to United’s prayers and with Jurgen Klopp’s men already having Sahin, they could well turn out to be the club most willing to do business.
