It is that time of the year when speculations start taking the shape of realities. Clubs start analyzing their mid-season performance and accordingly make changes in their squad. Some underperforming players leave the clubs and some impressive players join the proceedings. There remains a continuous buzz among the fans about whom the club should sign. There are plenty of wish lists which flow and the managers plan their squad as per their financial statuses.
Today we list 3 possible transfers which may materialize during this winter transfer window.
1. Raphael Varane to Chelsea
Source of the rumour: Express
Raphael Varane has been really unlucky not to feature in Real Madrid’s starting lineup after spending nearly 3 and a half seasons with the club. The talented 21-year-old French defender has hardly got playing time with the Spanish giants and may make a move out of the club soon. His ex-boss Jose Mourinho under whom he had made his club debut is currently in charge of Premier League toppers Chelsea FC. It is a known fact that Mourinho has liking for the young defender. Also Chelsea desperately needs a proper replacement of club legend John Terry who is slowly moving out of his prime. They have Garry Cahill in their lineup who can command the defense and with Varane joining the squad, the team’s defensive lineup will reach different height altogether. The team’s squad is already considered to be one of the most balanced sides in the world right now. Raphael Varane’s addition will be an icing on the cake for Jose Mourinho’s side.
2. Divock Origi back to Liverpool
Divock origin grabbed eyeballs in this year’s FIFA World Cup with his sparkling and energetic performance in Belgian colours. Due to Romelu Lukaku’s injury Origi got playing time and performed impressively. Immediately after the tournament Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers roped in the exciting young forward for a five-year contract for £10 million. With likes of Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli in the squad, it was unlikely that the youth would hardly get playing time. Thus, Rodgers immediately loaned him back to Lille for a year. Since summer, Rodgers’ team has struggled in the league and strikers have been a major concern for the Irish manager. While Daniel Sturridge remained out of action due to injury for most of the times, Balotelli was pathetic to be honest. In this crisis period and pressure situation it is quite likely that Rodgers may call back Divock Origi half way through the loan period. Even though they need to pay £4.7 million pound to the French club, Brendan Rodgers will not mind as long as his presence adds finesse to the club’s attack force. Only concern Divock Origi’s injury problems and fitness issues. As per reports, Origi will undergo an MRI scan. Its report will decide the Belgian’s fate.
3. Edinson Cavani to Arsenal
Source of the rumour: Express
This deal if happens, will be the most expensive transfers in the history of Arsenal FC. The north London club is facing serious problems in the strike force since their talismanic Dutch striker, Robin van Persie left in 2012. His replacements were German Lukas Podolski who was utilized properly and Olivier Giroud, who is good but not up to the mark. They have a galaxy of good players in their midfield but strikers have failed to deliver over the years. If Cavani’s deal materializes, Arsenal will become a team to reckon not in only in England but in Europe also. Edinson Cavani is not at all happy at Paris Saint Germain, as per reports. He has been forced to play in a different role to make Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic comfortable. This has already created irritation in the Uruguayan striker and he will be more than happy to make an exit out of Paris. His likely destinations are Arsenal or Manchester United. It will be interesting to watch Cavani joining either of the Premier League giants.
