Three Defenders who can move this January

As the January Transfer window is about to be slammed shut in just over a week, we here at Soccersouls take a look at three defenders who are available currently and might just switch club colors before the Transfer Deadline day. It goes without saying, that players are truly overpriced in January and with the right players not just quite available; managers aren’t willing enough to splash the cash in wilderness. Today’s section is all about defenders who are available currently and might just be worth the penny come into the second half of the Premier League campaign.

1. Fabian Schar

This Swiss defender’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of amazing and stuff of which dreams are made. After leaving FC Wil, the second division side in picturesque Switzerland, Schaar is now one of the mainstays of a dazzling FC Basel side. The no nonsense centre-back has been a rock at the back for the Swiss side and has been an integral part of the outfit who beat Chelsea twice in the Champions League group stages already, this campaign. The 6’1 defender has heavily attracted interests from the top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

2. Eliaquim Mangala

Mangala is currently playing his trade at Portuguese Giant Porto and If major tabloids are to be believed, Manchester City have made a fresh move for the highly rated twenty two year old, and Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini is eager to reinforce his defense and add another weapon in City’s defensive Armour. The Frenchman is brilliant at the back with dazzling dynamism on the ball and has the eye for a pass too.  At 6’2 he is dominating at the heart of the defense, an imposing presence during defending or attacking set pieces and also the understanding when to throw himself into a tackle and when to hold back and clear the danger away. His transfer release clause might just sway some clubs away but Manchester City are one who aren’t deterred by any fiscal ramification.

3. Fabio Coentrao

The Portuguese has fallen in the pecking order at Real Madrid and with Marcelo’s impressive form, Coentrao isn’t likely to get a game any time soon. His future is suddenly on the line and has been attracting keen interest from all top clubs across Europe with Manchester United thought to be the most likely destination.  The 25 year old certainly has more quality than just to warm the sidelines at Madrid and with the World Cup in June, he needs more match practice to suit into Portugal’s system at Sambaland. Even though Real manager Carlo Ancelotti would not want any departures in January, it’s no harm in saying Coentrao will be desperate to leave. Spanish website AS, Claims that Real Madrid are after Alberto Moreno as a potential replacement for Fabio Coentrao, which may be the key to United laying their hands on the Portuguese star.
