Three Deadline Signings Leeds United Could Still Complete

Share

It’s just some hours before the 11pm – January 31st deadline of the winter transfer window, and Leeds are yet to make a signing.

The Whites have lost Alex Mowatt, Diagouraga and Luke Murphy to Barnsley, Ipswich and Burton respectively, and Monk would need to make a few quality signings in order to add more depth to a squad that really needs one as Premier League promotion is seriously pursued.

Here are 3 signings Leeds should still endeavour to complete as the clock ticks:

Omar Bogle

The Grimsby Town striker is League Two’s highest goal scorer having scored 19 goals in 27 league appearances this term, and he’s definitely one of the most sought-after transfer targets of the January transfer window.

Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea City, and Championship quintet Rotherham, Norwich, Barnsley, Derby County and Nottingham Forest, are all interested in the signature of the 24-year-old finisher, and Leeds have a lot of work on their hands if they are to land the highly rated forward and proven goalscorer.

Their overdependence on Chris Wood for the goals mean they really can do with a backup striker, and Omar seems a better option than Ashley Fletcher. The England C team striker scored 19 goals across all competitions last season upon signing from Solihull Moors in the summer of 2015 and would be a very good addition no doubt.

Emilio Izaguirre

The Celtic left-back isn’t willing to remain at Parkhead beyond summer when his contract expires and has said he won’t be signing a new deal.

Leeds have shown interest in the Honduras international, and his experience would come handy to the team’s rearguard if he is snatched up.

With things set to get tougher in the coming months, Izaguirre would be a great backup and competition for Taylor, and such an addition can be helpful in the pursuit of Premier League status.

That Monk has had to settle for a right-legged Berardi with Taylor out means there isn’t enough depth at left-back for the team, and the 30-year-old Celtic player would definitely be a great signing to the team.

Sergi Canos

The young winger is also a signing Leeds will do well to complete in the coming hours. Norwich are willing to let him go permanently while Leeds want a loan deal as his performance this season has been underwhelming, and if they continue to stall, other suitors will move ahead of them to seal a temporary deal in no time.

It’s believed the former Liverpool forward has enough quality that can provide Sacko enough competition and cover until the end of the season. The Malian has been out of action since last year until his cameo appearance in the game against Sutton.

Leeds’ struggles on the right of the midfield without Sacko were obvious, but with capable legs like Canos available, that wouldn’t be the case.

The Barcelona Academy graduate demonstrated his eyes for goals while at Brentford last season and would definitely bring much-needed firepower to Leeds attack if signed before the clock runs out.
