Three Alternatives For Celtic If Gordon Leaves The Club – Featuring This Ex-Manchester United Star

Share

Scottish Premiership giants Celtic were rocked with Chelsea’s link to their goalkeeper Craig Gordon, in the January transfer window. The west Londoners were keen to add the 34-year-old to their ranks as a backup to Courtois with Begovic set to leave, but a deal couldn’t be struck.

However, despite the Hoops’ plans to extend Gordon’s contract, the club is still all at sea as per his future at Parkhead, and Chelsea could still return with an offer the goalie/club won’t be able to turn down in the summer transfer window.

If he leaves for the Stamford Bridge or elsewhere as demands for him are bound to grow following the Chelsea links, here are 3 net-guarders Celtic can replace him with:

Anders Lindegaard

The former Manchester United goalie might not have lived up to the lofty expectations and heights set for him having impressed even the great Sir Alex Ferguson from his days at Carrington, but he still has plenty in him that suggests he would be a good fit at Celtic.

The 32-year-old Preston Northend goalie left the Red Devils in 2015 after 29 appearances in 5 years at the club and moved to West Brom. After failing to break into the first team at Hawthorns, he moved to Deepdale where his chances have been limited by Chris Maxwell.

Despite making just 12 Championship appearances last term and 8 in the ongoing term – keeping 2 clean sheets, Anders, who was once touted as Peter Schmeichel’s heir remains a quality safe hands and that he is hardly beaten by long shots make him a standout goalie.

Ben Hamer

The Leicester City goalie won’t be making the starting XI or become the first choice backup at the Kings Power Stadium anytime soon with the forms of Schmeichel and Zieler firmly standing in his way.

Since arriving from Charlton Athletic in 2014, the 29-year-old English goalie has appeared just 8 times in the Premier League, with none coming in the last 2 seasons, but his heroics in goal for the Red Robins with whom he won the League One with in the 2011-12 season highlight why Ben is a good goalie who would be able to do well in the Scottish Premiership.

Ben helped guide Charlton to 9th on the Championship log in his first season in England’s 2nd tier and can be a great replacement for Gordon at Parkhead considering the wealth of experience he has playing across England’s football leagues.

Scott Bain

Gordon’s colleague at the national team can also step up in his place, if he leaves the Bhoys this summer, due to his brilliance in goal for Dundee United.

The 25-year-old earned a call up to the Scotland team 2 years ago following series of brilliant goalkeeping for the Dees since arriving from Alloa Athletic at the beginning of the 2014-15 season, and he has gotten better since despite the poor form of his team.

He has conceded 31 goals this term – the joint 4th lowest in the Scottish Premiership, and remains one of the finest goalies in the league.

The Scott has enough qualities to play for the best team in the land, and the fact that he once got rejected at Aberdeen where he failed to make the grade means he won’t likely reject an opportunity to make a switch if it comes.
