This Middlesbrough Defender Could Be The Perfect Replacement For John Terry At Chelsea – Agreed?

Share

It happens more often than not that when a team loses a big piece of their squad, they tend to panic and try to make signings just to fill the void they’ve left in the team, but that doesn’t mean that sometimes those moves don’t eventually pay off for them.

So, now that the winter transfer window is finally upon us, be prepared to watch a lot of teams rushing into signings and trying to either save their season or keep the pace and continue their run for the title, just acquiring guys before other teams lure them away.

A team which has been stealing all headlines (for good and bad reasons) over the course of the past few months is the leading Premier League side – Chelsea, as the Blues have been on an amazing run when it comes to results, but have been mistreating their skipper and Three Lions’ former standout – John Terry.

Terry signed a new contract at the start of the season despite being offered a huge amount of money from Qatar and the Chinese Super League, as the 36-year-old wanted to hang the cleats as a Chelsea player and was determined to earn a spot on Antonio Conte’s rotation.

However, after an injury and the success the Blues are having under Conte’s 3 man defence, it seems like Terry’s never going to have another chance to prove his value for the Italian boss, and it’s very likely that the skipper winds up as a loanee for the Cherries until the end of the season.

So, now that one of the biggest legends the club have ever seen is set to leave Stamford Bridge, and after being snubbed by primary targets Leonardo Bonucci and Antonio Rudiger, the Blues are reportedly looking to make a move from Middlesbrough standout Ben Gibson to fill the void of Terry, so would this be a good signing or just a panic buy?

Gibson has been a key element in Aitor Karanka’s squad and is one of the most promising youngsters in the country, making 21 appearances (all starts) for Middlesbrough over the course of cuerrent season.

He would be a nice addition tor a 3 man defensive system, as he can play both in the center or the left side of the defence, but he wouldn’t be an upgrade over the recently recalled Nathan Ake, who returned to Stamford Bridge after a year and a half in Watford and AFC Bournemouth.

Besides, considering they also have Kurt Zouma ready to contribute and how well the Gary Cahill – David Luiz – Cesar Azpilicueta defence has looked so far this year, it would be very difficult for Gibson to actually play at all for a Chelsea team that only has to play the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Yes, Gibson is a very talented player and he’s set to achieve big things in his career, but making a move to Chelsea wouldn’t make sense for him right now, as he’s a steady starter for his current side and could have his development stalled at Stamford Bridge.
