Premier League Opinion: 3 ideal summer destinations for Nathan Ake

Nathan Ake is a 24-year-old Dutch centre-half, who currently plies his trade in the Premier League for Eddie Howe’s youthful Bournemouth side. He has impressed heavily since joining the Cherries.

A former product of the Chelsea academy, he was signed from Feyernood as a teenager and spent the best of his development years at Chelsea’s academy and training facility at Cobham near Slough.

He is a mobile centre-half who uses his strength and awareness to outplay attackers. He is an excellent reader of the ball and the probabilities of him mistiming a tackle are microscopically low. His lack of game time at Chelsea triggered the youngster to make the switch to Bournemouth.

Since this move to the Vitality, he has become a key feature of the starting XI. This season, he is yet to miss a single minute of Premier League action as he has been involved in all 31 games so far this season, right from the start.

According to reports from Daily Star, there are a multitude of clubs keen on signing this talented Dutchman. Here are the three clubs said to be moving for Ake:

Manchester United

The need for a new defence at Old Trafford is fairly high. Despite their sudden resurgence under the stable guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they have often looked quite shabby in the defensive phase.

Nathan Ake has the right amount of mobility and dynamism to fit in at the centre of the United defence. He can also change his role depending on who he is partnering at the back. Capable of playing even at wing-back, this move is effectively assured to deliver results.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will need to look for defenders in the upcoming summer transfer window, considering that Toby Alderweireld could leave for a price that would be considered ‘peanuts’ in today’s footballing economy due to a special clause in his contract.

With Jan Vertonghen still around to possibly partner Ake in the centre of defence next season, the Dutchman is guaranteed to improve as a player as the Belgian veteran could be the ideal mentor for him.

Chelsea

Chelsea have a £40m buy-back clause in Nathan Ake’s contract and if they do exercise this clause, none of the competing clubs would have a say in how this move eventually pans out.

Considering that David Luiz is over 30 now, bringing Ake back would be extremely shrewd by the Blues. After all, he has experience of playing in this team which will be crucial when it comes to his decision-making process at the end of the day.
