Think About It – Is This Juventus Star Good Enough For Chelsea?

Share

Antonio Conte hasn’t officially taken charge of Chelsea yet, but he seems to be making a move for some of his ex-players. The Blues are expected to get a number of signings into the club next season and one such player could be Swiss star Stephan Lichtsteiner.

The Juventus man has spent many seasons in Italy and it could be time for him to try out his luck in one of the toughest leagues in the world, albeit under a manager that he has worked under. Lichtsteiner isn’t the youngest player in the world at 32-years of age and he would could somewhere around 12 million pounds if reports are to be believed.

The Italian manager would want to sign a few players that have worked under him, but certainly this does seem to be a bit of a crazy deal. Chelsea do need some new blood into the team, but that has to be young blood and not someone who could be playing his last few seasons at the top level.

We need to understand that playing for Chelsea in the Premier League is a completely different task to playing in Italy for Juventus. The Italian club might have a policy of doing really well with aging players such as Gigi Buffon, Patrice Evra and even Andrea Pirlo but that probably cannot translate into the same success in the Premier League.

Not enough quality at Chelsea

Lichtsteiner though is one of the bets wing-backs in the world and bringing him into the club might be for other reasons as well. Chelsea have lacked a proper leader and even if they do have John Terry in their side, Conte might want someone who has played with him to be the eyes and ears for him at the club.

Remember, Jose Mourinho brought in a number of players who had been with him at Porto when he moved to Chelsea, the same could be happening with the Italy manager who takes over from next season.

Last season Chelsea had the likes of Branislav Ivanovic, Baba Rahman, Cesar Azpilicueta and even Kenedy played in the wing-back spots. Lichtsteiner though would be a better player than most of the players in the current Chelsea team.

Lichtsteiner might not be the youngest player as stated earlier but he does have the leadership quality that Chelsea need. He might not play every game but he can give a lot more than that behind the doors.

Chelsea don’t need Lichtsteiner simply because of his age or his playing ability, he might not be the best player to make Chelsea better again next season but one thing is for sure, he could be the right man for Antonio Conte in the team.
