Southampton opinion: Should the Saints sign Bryan Mbeumo?

According to a report from L’Equipe (h/t MSN), Southampton are battling it out with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg for the signing of Troyes’ teenage sensation Bryan Mbeumo in the summer.

The report reveals that both sides have had an initial offer rejected and the youngster’s availability has been enquired by the likes of Schalke, Bordeaux and Strasbourg.

The Saints have a huge summer transfer window ahead of them, both for the side as well as for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who has been a breath of fresh air for the club since his appointment back in the middle of last season.

Hasenhuttl’s managerial genius brought Southampton back from the dead after looking destined for relegation when Mark Hughes was still in charge.

The summer window will be pivotal for Saints to progress as a club and Hasenhuttl will certainly look to have a positive impact in his first full season.

Southampton’s major issue last season was lack of goals. Charlie Austin and Shane Long both had hugely disappointing seasons while Nathan Redmond, despite a few good performances, failed to get as many goals as the Saints would have liked.

Danny Ings ended the campaign as the club’s top scorer but with any support in other areas of the pitch in terms of goals, Saints will again face the difficulty of depending upon just one or two players to carry them home throughout the season.

Hasenhuttl made quite a name for himself as an attacking manager, who gives chances to young players to show their worth and Southampton have the wonderful history of bringing through brilliant young talents.

The manager and the club are a perfect fit in that regard and Southampton’s hunt for Bryan Mbeumo makes a ton of sense. The teenager could well be one of the best signings of the summer if the deal goes through.

A versatile forward, who can play anywhere across the front three, Mbeumo scored 11 times for Troyes in a hugely impressive campaign for the Troyes last season. The youngster was mainly preferred from the right-flank, where his pace and stunning dribbling brought him and the club a lot of success.

Conclusion

Southampton need goals and investing in a youth player who will guarantee them a decent end product will give them the best of both worlds.

Bryan Mbeumo would be an unbelievable signing if Hasenhuttl can pull it off in the summer and if he can keep his head down and work hard, he will be one of the top names in world football in the coming years.
