According to a report in Burnley Express, Premier League trio of Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Southampton are interested in signing Spezia Calcio striker David Okereke during this transfer window, his agent has confirmed.
As per a report in Sun, Palace had interest in signing the player back in the January window as well. However, Roy Hodgson’s men opted against making a firm bid mid-season.
It is suggested that the Serie B side will be resigned to lose the striker and will demand a fee around £8m to accept a move from either of the clubs interested. (h/t Sun)
The Nigerian international did well last season by scoring 10 goals and assisting 12 more in 30 league games. He still has three years contract left with the Italian side though.
Here’s why Newcastle should beat everyone around to sign him during this window:
Salomon Rondon was the leading striker for Newcastle United throughout the course of last season, with able support coming from Ayoze Perez, Miguel Almiron or Christian Atsu.
Now, the Venezuelan international, who was actually on loan from West Brom for one season, still isn’t sure whether he would return to the St.James’ Park at the start of next campaign.
On the other hand, Perez, who had a great finish to the season. where he scored goals for fun, has told his friends that he wants to leave the club and go to Spain.
So, it does make sense for Newcastle to look to sign a player who can play as a striker and also as a winger if required. For that reason, they are right in pursuing a possible deal for David Okereke, who is a versatile frontman with great numbers in the past 12 months.

All in all, we can conclude by saying that the Magpies need a versatile frontman and Okereke can be that man for them.
