The Best Right Backs So Far This Season Featuring Arsenal And Tottenham Stars

Share

There hasn’t been any shortage of players in this world who gained prominence by playing at the right back position. They don’t score as many goals but their hard working attitude and excellence is something that separates them from the rest of the players in their position. The likes of Carlos Alberto, Gary Neville, Javier Zanetti and Daniel Alves have all proved that being acclaimed by playing at right back is very much possible despite of a clear dearth of goals. And the Premier League too has been a place for the nurturing ground for such right backs since it began, take Gary Neville and Arsenal’s Lauren for example.

And this season has been no different. Some right backs have performed very well, while others have exceeded expectations. So, here are the five best right full backs in the Premier League this season so far.

Cedric Soares- Southampton

The former Sporting Lisbon man has done exceedingly well to cope up with the physicality of the Premier League, ever since coming to St. Mary’s this past summer. The very first sight of him gives you a feeling that the 24 year old is a battler and that’s what he is. A very balanced full back, quite a bit in Nathaniel Clyne’s mould, Soares has been Southampton’s most consistent performers this season. An intense tackler and someone who’s very committed when winning the ball back. Soares has won 63 percent of his tackles making 29 interceptions in total. Not just this but Soares has made 43 clearances too. In the attacking sense, he’s been just as effective, creating 12 chances and assisting once.

Hector Bellerin- Arsenal

Often known in the Arsenal camp as ‘Flash’, Bellerin is supposedly one of the fastest players in the world right now and has been lighting up the stage for sometime. The 20 year old Spaniard is renowned for his pace and acceleration, which always seems to take your breath away. When Arsenal were enduring a rough defensive crisis last season and were short of right backs, the youngster stepped up to prove his credentials and impress. And that’s what he’s done this season too. Bellerin attempts 1.8 dribbles every game and has completed 69 percent of his take ons. He’s registered one assist in the Premier League too. The young man has made 38 clearances and has made 21 interceptions, bringing to the fore how complete a full back the little man is.

Kyle Walker: Tottenham Hotspur

Just when you thought that Kyle Walker’s career was slowly coming to a halt, the Englishman has proved people wrong by coming back to his very best again. Some expected him to be sold, and others didn’t treat him to be good enough to play for a top six club. But the 25 year old has fittingly silenced his critics. The former Sheffield United man’s inspiring performance against Arsenal last week defines Walker- someone with great marking ability and someone who oozes with tenacity and aggression. Walker has appeared 12 times for Pochetinno’s men and has been a key part of their defensive resoluteness. He’s made 37 interceptions and as many tackles with an average of 2.9 tackles and interceptions per game. Walker has won 70 percent of his tackles and has been successful in winning as high as 77 percent of his headed duels too.

Nathaniel Clyne: Liverpool

The young Englishman has made a brisk start to the campaign with the Reds, being just as solid and compact as he was at Southampton, although his performances have been a tad under noticed. One of the most complete full backs in the league, Clyne reads the game very well and tackles well with the help of an agile body. He’s made 12 appearances in the Premier League and has made an average of 3.5 tackles per game, completing 57 percent of them. What has improved since his days at South Coast has been the early crossing that would benefit target man Christian Benteke a lot. The 24 year old has created 8 chances, making 31 clearances and 17 interceptions, 1.4 per game.
