The Best And The Worst Rated Leeds Players vs Newcastle United

 

A packed house turned up to watch Leeds in action against Newcastle in what more closely resembles a Premier League clash given the size of the clubs.

Unfortunately for Leeds, Newcastle outclassed them and have shown the Yorkshire club just how much work they need to do if they want to fight for promotion this season.

We look at the Leeds player ratings:

Rob Green – 5

Very poor showing from the experienced keeper. A massive mistake which basically handed Dwight Gayle a goal on a plate.

Luke Ayling – 7

It was a good showing from the fullback, especially considering the attacking options at Newcastle’s disposal. But both attacked and defended well.

Kyle Bartley – 6

Small margins sometimes decide these games, and although in general, he defended well, his error in the lead-up to the first goal put Leeds on the back foot.

Pontus Jansson – 6

Much has been said of his quality in recent weeks, but this is one of the most difficult afternoons he is likely to face at this level. Dwight Gayle was a constant menace.

Charlie Taylor – 7

Worked tirelessly up and down the left flank, and showed interested Premier League clubs that he is capable of mixing it with a better level of opposition.

Ronaldo Vieira – 5

Completely dominated in the midfield by Colback and Shelvey, who showed their Premier League class.

Eunan O’Kane – 5

Along with his midfield partner, he chased shadows for most of the game. Went close to scoring, but that was as far as his contribution went.

Souleymane Doukara – 5

He worked hard and tried to get into the game, but to attack the opposition, you need the ball. And Leeds didn’t have the ball in attacking areas enough.

Kalvin Phillips – 5

Really struggled to get going, and with Pablo Hernandez missing, it was his job to take all set pieces, a task in which he failed miserably.

Kemar Roofe – 5

He huffed and puffed and struggled to get going. In flashes, he looked OK but really failed to create anything of substance.

Chris Wood – 5

Up against the Newcastle defence, this was always going to be a test for him. But when you add the fact that he received no service to the mix, this was never going to be a battle that he won.
