The £12m-rated Midfielder That Manchester United Should Simply Avoid Signing

The transfer season means that it is the busiest time of the year for two sets of people. Firstly, the management of the football clubs, who have to look at all the possible transfer targets to decide who will suit the particular needs of the team and then negotiate with the club for them. And then the rumour mills who have to burn a lot of midnight oil to churn out exciting new stories to keep the fans occupied in this time of madness.

When discussing the transfer targets of Manchester United this season, a host of players from Ronaldo To Strootman have been linked with them and in the mix there has been a young Vitesse player’s name that had been unnecessarily dragged in to.

Marco Van Ginkel, the 20-year old Dutch U-21 has been a long term Chelsea target but a section of the press had attached him to United recently. So who is Van Ginkel? And Do United need him?

He is a central midfielder or to be more clear, he can slot in anywhere in the midfield. However, Moyes, who is pursuing Barcelona starlet Thiago Alcantara to switch his attention towards Van Ginkel would be a real step down.

Both Thiago and Van Ginkel are pretty much similar kind of players, both are versatile, and can operate in varied positions. Next season, if and when Wayne Rooney decides to leave the club, Shinji Kagawa would take up the opportunity with both hands and play in a more attacking (central) role. Kagawa had excelled for Borussia in the past and he is expected to repeat that feat in England also, provided he gets the opportunity and played in the right position. Thereafter, as a further option, United would have Thiago who can partner the likes of Carrick and Cleverley behind Kagawa. In these circumstances, the signature of Van Ginkel would certainly be a burden on the team and the player would also repent missing out on first team football.

What United had been lacking this season was a solid holding midfielder and Moyes should scour the market in search of one before it is too late. Although Carrick had done the job this time, the team would benefit hugely if he gets another man to partner him in that slot. Thiago, who has transformed himself a player where he is seen as the potential to inherit Xavi’s throne and got himself ahead of Fabregas who has been used in a rather unfamiliar position at the Camp Nou. Such is the talent of the Spanish youngster.

I am in no way suggesting that Van Ginkel is not a talented player, but on the contrary, he is one of the premier talents at the moment in Europe. But in David Moyes’ team, one cannot simply see him fitting.
