Manchester City Player Ratings vs Burnley – Here’s how the Cityzens fared

Champions Manchester City continued their domination in the league with a thumping 5-0 win over Burnley at the Etihad Stadium. Goals from Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane won them an easy three points.

The lead was only one at half-time but Pep Guardiola’s men took charge in the second period and scored four goals. They are now on top of the table, with a whopping goal difference of 23 after just nine games in. It will take some effort to stop them from defending the league title.

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson (7)

No saves to make but provided exquisite passes to set City on the attack. He looks capable of playing in the midfield, to be honest.

John Stones (7)

Floated from right-back, to centre-back and to central midfield. Kept Burnley guessing and the Englishman was untroubled.

Vincent Kompany (7)

Had a few rusty touches at the start, but the captain recovered and steadied himself from there on.

Aymeric Laporte (7)

Was physically very good against the opposition strikers and his passing was good as always

Benjamin Mendy (7)

Didn’t have to do too much defensive work, hence he was given the license to move forward at will and cause problems to the Burnley defence.

Fernandinho

Fernandinho (7.5)

Scored a great goal to sum up his game. Always calm, composed and authoritative in the midfield.

Bernardo Silva (7)

The Portuguese scored a sharply taken goal and was always on the ball in central midfield. He makes those late angled runs which are hard to mark.

David Silva (8.5)

Ran the show for the home side with neat touches, sumptuous passes and amazing ability to pick out the right runs at the right time.

Riyad Mahrez (8)

Fired in some great crosses to trouble the Burnley defence. Scored an absolute beauty to cap off a great game.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero (7)

Scored the first goal of the game to start the afternoon. However, the Argentine missed two good chances and was denied once by old pal Joe Hart.

Leroy Sane (7.5)

Had the Burnley right-back in trouble throughout the game. Scored a good goal to round off his performance.

Subs

Kevin de Bruyne (Subbed on after 58 mins) (7)

Came on with an applause and straightaway, the Belgian was at it. His passing was imperious.

Gabriel Jesus (Subbed on after 66 mins) (5)

The Brazilian should have scored after coming on from the bench.

Phil Foden (Subbed on after 75 mins) (7)

A lovely short cameo from the Englishman who showed that he is here to fight for his place in the City first-team.
