Louis Van Gaal has offered to resign from United’s managerial position after the defeat against Southampton. However, Ed Woodward stalled the Dutchman’s resignation, asking him to atleast discuss the same with his family. Reports suggest that United board are having talks with Jose Mourinho, as such the news is not confirmed.
The Guardian also report that Woodward is reluctant to sack Van Gaal – indeed, he wants him to stay – but the manager could leave regardless should United lose to Derby in the FA Cup on Friday.
According to Miguel Delaney, the journalist who stated that Jose Mourinho has written a six page letter to the United hierarchy stating his reasons to replace Van Gaal, the Special One is desperate to get the job and acquire United’s managerial position.
“Manchester United are well aware that he [Mourinho] wants the job when Van Gaal goes and communications have been ongoing between his representatives for some time so he wouldn’t need to ask for the job.” said Delaney.
This news has been denied by Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes. According to Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho has had informal talks with the United board with regards to Van Gaal’s replacement.
On the other hand, Manchester United have their scouts watching the Porto duo Bruno Martins and Ruben Neves. Reports further suggest United are also looking out for Marseille winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.
According to the Daily Mail, Louis van Gaal is keen to strengthen his backline via a reunion with Dutch international Martins Indi, who he managed at the 2014 World Cup.
