The current Premier League season is half-way through and the teams have started reshuffling their squad, letting few players go and bringing in a few. In this winter transfer window the giants of the league have started eyeing their respective targets as per their requirements. While league leaders Chelsea have stayed dormant so far and are not willing to make major changes in this window, teams like Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to bring in quality big money faces into their respective sides. Both United and Arsenal have been facing problems in the defense region. While Manchester United does not have a quality center back, Most of the Arsenal defenders are injury plagued. Also, both Wenger and Louis van Gaal are targeting central midfielders who can play a pivotal role in their sides.
Here are some possible big-money moves which may materialize in January in the Premier League.
Kevin Strootman to Manchester United
Kevin Strootman has been a long-term target for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal. The Dutch manager had wished to rope in his countryman in the summer itself but the AS Roma was not willing to sell one of their best midfielders. In January, again, van Gaal has again showed his urge to sign Strootman and this time the Italian club has agreed to sell the midfielder provided their huge demands are met. Roma has finally agreed to listen to bids for the 24-year-old. Club manager Rudi Garcia had mentioned earlier that they would sell Strootman for nothing less than £77 million. Louis van Gaal has already made Strootman a priority signing and probably would go to any extent to bring in the talented midfielder.
William Carvalho to Arsenal
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been after Portuguese defender William Carvalho since last winter. He wanted to sign Carvalho to strengthen his defense, but Sporting Lisbon had slapped a 30 million fees Euros for the defender. This season again, Arsenal have revived their interest and the Portuguese club is ready to sell him for a decent £20m transfer fee. Carvalho himself is interested in moving to Premier League which is, of course a bigger stage. Arsenal too needs a strong and talented defender like William Carvalho. This looks a likely move in favour of the Gunners.
Moussa Sissoko to Arsenal
Arsenal desperately needs a holding midfielder who can play a pivotal role in front of the back four. Accordingly they have eyed a move for Newcastle United’s French midfielder Moussa Sissoko. Sissoko too revealed his interest for joining the London giants saying, it is ‘club of my heart’. Newcastle United too are ready to sell him to Arsenal for £20million. Sissoko wants to play in the Champions League and Newcastle are in no way going to satisfy his dreams in the next few years realistically. Arsenal too needs a talisman in their holding midfield position and Sissoko perfectly matches Wenger’s needs.
