Strongest Possible Manchester United Lineup vs CSKA Moscow: Jones and Rooney to Start

Share

Manchester United host CSKA Moscow in he UEFA Champions League amid criticisms over their style of play. Since their 1-1 draw in Moscow last month, Louis Van Gaal’s  men have drawn all of their four games in all competitions, out-of-which three of which were 0-0s. Manchester United will be hoping for a better luck in front of goal in the reverse fixture and snatch the 3 points which is at stake.

Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair and Antonio Valencia while Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin and James Wilson are all minor doubts. Phil Jones is set to return for the game. This is how the Red Devils will line up for the clash:

Chris Smalling

Spanish custodian David de Gea will be the goalkeeper for United ahead of Argentine Sergio Romero. In the defence, Phil Jones will most likely return after being rested for the Crystal Palace game. Jones is all set to partner Chris Smalling with Dutchman Daley Blind leaving way. Both Jones and Smalling have been a force to reckon with and will hope to continue to be the same against CSKA. Matteo Darmian will be the right-back while Marcos Rojo will take care of the left.

In the midfield, Bastian Schweinsteiger is set to start alongside Michael Carrick as the holding midfielder after Schneiderlin is doubtful ahead of tomorrow’s clash. If Schneiderlin is passed fit, he will replace the German veteran. Spanish duo of Juan Mata and Ander Herera will be the attacking midfielders alongside Anthony Martial, who will play as a left winger. Since Van Gaal has decided to use Martial as a winger in order to accommodate his captain Wayne Rooney, the goals have dried up.

Martial

But still, it is certain that Rooney will start as the striker in the crucial match against CSKA.

Manchester United Possible XI: David De Gea; Matteo Darmian, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo; Michael Carrick, Bastian Schweinsteiger; Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial; Rooney.
