Strongest Manchester United Lineup To Face Derby: Mata Out, Herrera In

Projected Manchester United Lineup vs Derby

Time could be coming to an end for the Van Gaal era at Manchester United with reports coming in that his position at the club would be discussed on a game by game basis. The Dutchman suffered yet another defeat at home against Southampton earlier but it wasn’t just the loss but the way United played against the Saints that has led to the displeasure of the United faithful.

Ander Herrera

Manchester United aren’t playing like Manchester United and this has been a huge problem for Van Gaal as he still searches for the goals that can help him win games. United next have a huge game against Derby in the FA Cup, which will be played at Pride Park.

The Championship side could very well start as favourites since they are playing at home and are flying in the fifth position in the Football League Championship as they look to secure a spot in the playoffs at least.

United have a long list of injuries at the moment and could do with a game where no other player has to come off due to fitness or injury related issue. We look ahead to a crucial game for Van Gaal and predict the starting lineup for the Red Devils.

David de Gea

The Spaniard couldn’t do much to stop Charlie Austin’s winner last time around but will hope to keep a clean sheet in this game.

Guillermo Varela

With Ashley Young out and Matteo Darmian not 100% fit, it could be Varela who gets the nod to start in this crucial game.

Daley Blind

No prizes for guessing Blind in the heart of the defence as Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo aren’t 100% fit yet.

Chris Smalling

The leader of the defence and someone whose performances have gotten better as the season has progressed; Smalling must start the game for United.

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

The youngster could well be getting a chance to start against the Championship side as Van Gaal tries to ensure he doesn’t get another loss for United.

Morgan Schneiderlin

With the absence of Bastian Schweinsteiger, it should be Schneiderlin who keeps his place in the team.

Marouane Fellaini

United might be tempted to play Juan Mata but seeing that they are the away side, Louis van Gaal could take the safe approach and play Fellaini in the middle of the park.

Ander Herrera

The Spaniard has looked good whenever he has gotten a start for United but only if he is played in an advanced position.

Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay hasn’t lived up to expectations this season but a game against a Championship side could well be the answer for the youngster.

Anthony Martial

The French attacker had a poor outing against Southampton but will be looking to do better against Derby County.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney’s so-called purple patch seems to have come to an end but he could do some damage against lower league opposition.
