Strongest Manchester United Line Up To Play Against West Ham – Mata In Middle And Fellaini To Start?

Share

Robin Van Persie’s memorable hat-trick ensured an emphatic win for Manchester United as David Moyes’ side brushed past Greek outfit Olympiacos on Wednesday night. The Red Devils now turn their attention to the Premier League where they will take on West Ham United in Saturday’s late kickoff.

Sam Allardyce’s men currently stand twelfth in the table and will be looking to hurl United yet another despair in their already stuttering season. Can Moyes build from the huge win in the Champions League to muster up full three points? If so, what would be their strongest possible eleven? We here at Soccersouls have the answer for our readers.

Goalkeeper:

David De Gea was the unsung hero for United in midweek as his double save kept the Red Devils in the match when the score was still 1-0. The Spaniard will now look to muster up another clean sheet in the league against a team that has blown hot and cold this campaign. United should win, given their confidence and it won’t be a surprise if De Gea has a shutout. However, he will be tested by the West Ham frontline and United’s number one will be more than aware of the significant threat from the home side.

Defenders:

Rafael should start in the right back slot and with his marauding runs up front which will give the West Ham defence a lot to think about. Patrice Evra is sure to start at left back while David Moyes will rely on the centre back partnership of Phil Jones and Rio Ferdinand as the experienced Serbian, Nemanja Vidic is out if the clash following the red card he received against Liverpool. Rio Ferdinand did roll back the years against Olympiacos and will have to do it once again, as Moyes is running out of options at the back given Smalling is still a doubt after the injury he suffered before the Liverpool game.

Midfielders:

Perfect time to start Juan Mata in the middle

Micheal Carrick is expected to be the pivot for United in midfield as Marounne Fellaini looks to have gained his lost touch, which made such an important player at Everton. Ryan Giggs have glimpses of his eternal genius in United’s 3-0 win but the 40 year old might not start a second consecutive match in three days giving either of Adnan Januzaj od Danny Welbeck his place on the left in the starting eleven.

While Robin Van Persie was stretchered off midway through the Champions League match, it is unlikely the Dutch man will return in time for the West Ham clash which gives a chance for Rooney to play little higher up and in turn, Juan Mata will have the chance to return to his favoured No.10 slot and Valencia can continue on the right flank

Strikeforce:

It would be a shame if Van Persie’s injury is indeed serious but if that happens, Moyes is sure to field the ever reliant Wayne Rooney to lead the line alongside Danny Welbeck. The latter was a vital cog in United’s turnaround at Old Trafford in midweek as he tirelessly chased down every second balls and also gave his heart out in lost causes. If the English can take their chances, make no mistake United can return with three points in their kitty.
