Chelsea strongest line up against Everton
Saturday’s early kickoff between Chelsea and Everton at Stamford Bridge certainly tops the list of the match of the Game week as the Premier League return after FA Cup and Champions League ties. The Blues from London are currently just a shade ahead of Arsenal at the zenith of the Premier League table and Jose Mourinho would want his players to keep the pressure up and collect three more points from the encounter.
The home side come into this clash at the end of a 0-2 reversal at the hands of Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA cup while Everton had no such problems dislodging Swansea by a 3-1 margin at home in the same competition. The Toffees from Merseyside will look to get their campaign back on track as manager Roberto Martinez insists his team will travel to Stamford Bridge without any fear and looking to muster full points in an enticing clash. So what should be Jose Mourinho’s best possible line up to combat Everton. We here at Soccersouls provide the answers.
Peter Cech is expected to man the Chelsea goal but will be under scrutiny against an Everton squad who can threaten any opposition with their majestic passing game and their significant goal scoring threat thanks to their new signing, Lacina Traore, on loan from Russian side Anzhi. Romelu Lukaku too is back in training after recovering from the knee injury the Belgian sustained, but he is ineligible to play against his parent club.
Cesar Azpilicueta will fill the left back slot as Ivanovic starts in on the other side. John Terry and Gary Cahill however as expected to take their presence in the heart of the defense, as Mourinho should rightly drop David Luiz, who has a disastrous day out against the Citizens at the Etihad. The Chelsea defense should look to neutralize Everton’s fluid passing game leading up to any threatening goal scoring opportunities.
Barring Marco Van Ginkel, Mourinho has a full strength midfield to choose from. Nemanja Matic should start alongside Ramires or Frank Lampard in the middle of the park. Lampard is better option as Ramires looked very tired against City. However Chelsea’s major attacking prowess comes from Eden Hazard, who has been simply stunning on the left side of the park. Brazilian Willian will start on the right while Oscar is expected to draft in the number ten role for the Blues.
Fernando Torres is expected to lead the front line as the Spaniard is expected to get the nod over Cameroon International Samuel Eto’o who struggled for greater periods against Manchester City. Mourinho will expect Torres can do the job against a clam and composed Everton defense who can hold their line against any opposition.
