From title chasers to a 4th place finish, Arsenal are back to where they find themselves usually at this time of the season. Having been outplayed and outclassed by Liverpool and Chelsea in a matter of few weeks, Arsenal have lost grounds on the title race and stand in the cusp of a melt down.
The 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea has led to a media black out and Arsene Wenger has cancelled his pre-match press conference ahead of the Swansea game.
Arsenal certainly cannot afford to drop more points in the Premier League if they stand a minimal chance of getting close to the title. The Gunners host Welsh club Swansea tomorrow knowing that a win might calm down the Gunners faithful at the Emirates.
What should be Arsenal’s starting XI against the Swans? Should Giroud be sacked for Sanogo? Should Ox be played on the wings?
While Szczesny had a poor outing against Chelsea, there are every chances of Fabianski getting the nod ahead of the Pole. Arsenal fans, based him on Twitter and rightly so. Szczesny could have done a lot more in the six goals that he let in. If I was Wenger, I would definitely opt for Fabianski for this one. The second choice keeper has put in some great performances in the Cup games and deserves a first team chance once in a while.
Nothing much to change here. The likes of Sagna, Koscielny and Mertesacker are likely to retain their spots. However the situation of Kieran Gibbs who was incorrectly dismissed by referee Andre Marriner instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is still a mystery. Arsenal are reportedly set to appeal to the FA to change the decision. If the Red card is not overturned in due time, it is likely that Monreal or Vermaelen will start at left back.
Having made the horrendous decision of playing Ox and Arteta in midfield, Wenger will likely turn to the Flamini, Arteta duo in the heart of the Gunners midfield. Elsewhere, there are also chances for Kim Kallstrom to make his Arsenal debut. Cazorla is likely to retain his No.10 role and Rosicky and Podolski are the most likely candidates to play on the wings.
Giroud is having a horrible run in front of goal over the past few weeks and can be expected to start from the bench if Wenger decides to use Sanogo instead. I for one, believe Giroud should be dropped for this one at least for the sake of it. He has been nothing short of a disappointment recently.
