Strongest Arsenal Line-up To Face Cardiff – Start Arteta And Podolski

Share

After dropping points against Manchester City and Chelsea, Arsenal are back to winning ways with two consecutive wins over West Ham and Newcastle United. This means that they will start the new year as league leaders and they have a relatively easier fixture against Cardiff City on new year day to extend their lead at the top.

So what would be Arsenal’s strongest line up Wenger could select against the blue birds?

Goalkeeping and Defence:

There is no confusion in this one. Szczesny  who is having a stellar season as Arsenal no 1  is expected to start in the goal for the gunners.

Sagna – Mr.Consistentcy

Another big boost for the gunners is  their star defender Laurent Koscielny is already back and he will partner with the giant German Per Mertesacker at the back. Sagna will start from the right while Gibbs is expected to make his trademark overlapping runs from the left.

Midfield:

Arteta

Losing two star midfielders like Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey should be a crisis situation for most of the clubs. But not for Arsenal. They have tremendous depth in their midfield department. Jack Wilshere will replace Ramsey and Cazorla will take up his favorite no 10 role. Now who should play as DM? Arteta or Flamini? What I feel is Flamini is bit over rated by media and fans. He is no way an Arsenal type player anymore. His passing and ball control is very average. May be a good option to bring in later on during games to hold on to leads. But nothing more than that. With Arteta in the middle, Arsenal rarely lose possession and the Spaniard brings in a calm aura to the team. So, Arteta it is.

Strike Force:

Podolski is back

Olivier Giroud who ended his goal drought against Newcastle will again spear head Arsenal’s attack. Olivier Giroud’s hold up play is second to none in premier league but he needs to improve his finishing accuracy to be more effective in red and white colors.

Lukas Podolski who is yet to start a game after coming back from injury should start in left wing. I know Thomas Rosicky had a great game against Newcastle but it would be sensible for Wenger to rest him especially during this hectic festive period. Theo Walcott is expected to make his high-speed runs from the right wing.
