Antonio Conte’s Chelsea lifted the Premier Leauge title at the Hawthorns last weekend and managed to back it up with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Watford, where they needed a last-gasp winner from super sub-Cesc Fabregas. They have just one game let in the league and with the FA Cup final no too far away, Conte will want to rest his key players for this game.
In what is the final game of the season for both clubs, Chelsea, the table toppers, will meet the Black Cats, who have hit rock bottom this season, with just 6 wins and 6 draws to their name. The Blues are expected to go for the kill to keep the momentum alive before the FA Cup final against Arsenal.
Chelsea have no injury issues ahead of this game and Conte has a full strength squad to chose from.
Though Courtois has been terrific, he could be rested for the FA Cup tie and Conte should stick with Begovic for this game.
The young defender put in a strong performance in the previous game and is expected to start yet again this weekend.
The skipper of the side, Terry, was the man of the match in the previous game where he also got on the scoresheet. He should keep his place in the side for this game.
Giving Cahill some rest should be Nathan Ake, who should start as a part of the back three alongside Terry and Zouma.
RWB – Cesar Azpilicueta:
Though he deserves some rest, Conte might use the Spanish full-back in his regular role to keep Victor Moses fresh for the FA Cup final.
CM – Cesc Fabregas:
The Spaniard scored the winner in the 4-3 thriller against Watford in the midweek and is expected to start this game in the midfield.
The Serbian should start alongside Fabregas to add some mettle to Chelsea’s midfield in this game.
The Italian was rested in the previous game but he should be fit and ready to take on the Black Cats this weekend.
The Brazilian was all over Watford in the previous outing and will want to prove his worth with a brilliant performance in the final league game of the season.
The former Barcelona man is also expected to start the FA Cup tie and will hope to get the job done early.
Giving Diego Costa a break should be Michy Bathsuayi, who has now scored 2 goals in his last 2 league outings for Chelsea.
